Understand Who Is Being Addressed
from Rhapsody Reflections Hosted by Oakridge Studios
Have you ever read a verse and felt confused, or even condemned? Before you apply a scripture to your life, ask one simple question: Who is it talking to? In this reflection, we look at one of the most important principles for understanding the Bible: recognising context and audience. In Romans 3, after quoting several passages about the condition of those under the Law, Paul makes a remarkable statement: whatever the Law says, it says to those who are under the Law. That's why "There is none righteous, no, not one" (Romans 3:10) isn't a description of the new creation in Christ. Paul was presenting the Law's verdict on those under the old covenant. When you learn to distinguish between the Law and grace, between the Old and New Testaments, and between man apart from Christ and who you are in Christ, the Scriptures become clearer and more meaningful. Don't isolate a verse from its context. Study the whole counsel of God, let Scripture interpret Scripture, and always read the Word in the light of your identity in Christ. 📖 THEME SCRIPTURE "Now we know that what things soever the law saith, it saith to them who are under the law…" — Romans 3:19 (KJV) 📚 FURTHER STUDY 2 Timothy 2:15 (AMPC) • 2 Timothy 3:16–17 • Colossians 1:9 🎧 If this episode brought clarity, follow Rhapsody Reflections, leave a rating, and share it with someone who loves studying the Word.
