Understanding Mental Illness& School Violence
from Ask Dr. Applewhite
There are many stigmas about mental illness in every culture around the world. However, on December 14, 2012 the concept of mental illness was changed for many. The merciless shootings and deaths at the Sandy Hook School in Newton, Connecticut awakened us to the fact that many of the shooting massacres at school campuses were done by persons suspected of being mentally-ill. In addition, the media reported that the shooter had Asperger’s Syndrome, a form of Autism, and that he was “mentally-ill”. Dr. Applewhite and guests will share startling facts about mental illness and school violence from her upcoming book. She will discuss ways to help us understand the difference between a person diagnosed with mental illness and a person who is deemed EVIL.
