Understanding Violence in Our Schools and How to Stop it with School Psychologist and Licensed Professional Counselor, Vivian A. Nichols

from Bad Thought Therapy™ · host C. Chérie Hardy

Schools are mirrors of what happening in our homes, communities, and nation. However, in addition to nurturing our children's intellect, schools cannot fail to teach children lessons on respecting differences; constructive ways to work through conflict; the power of empathy; the rippling effects of hurting others; and how to distinguish the violence that is fabricated through the entertainment business, and the deadly and painful consequences of violence in reality.  We all lose when the threat of violence is ignored, justified, or trivialized. The good news is that lives can be saved and violence can be stopped when parents, teachers, community leaders, and all stakeholders connected to schools learn, grow, and work together to demonstrate respect for others, even those who are different from them as well as and teach healthy methods for resolving intrapersonal and external conflict.  Children must see models of good behavior.  Getting the right information and having a strong support system for building peaceful communities can lead to better outcomes in our society in general. School psychologist and licensed professional counselor, Vivian A. Nichols, gives empowering information, particularly for parents, on ways to eliminate violence at home and in our schools.
