Podcast welcome you son of a bitch. You dirty. Yes, sars, brilliant your spurs. You're no good Ding that sort of thing welcome to the podcast welcome welcome to us We're doing Westerns for the next few weeks.
Yep, Dan Rob by the way, it's us and this is a series I want to establish this up front because usually we forget to do it. That's like the third episode Yeah, yeah, yeah, this series is called the exploration of the Western genre by the cowards Robin Dan Yes, I get that right. Huh very good. Very good stranger.
Just rolling the town over here. Oh my god. What is that? Miss baby.
That's miss baby. She's out of here. She's trying to get she's trying to get deputized not gonna happen We're looking at Western specifically least on the main feed Revisionist Westerns is a revisionist more modern takes on the classic Western. That's right sort of finally asking Maybe those guys were shooting everybody were kind of bad.
Yeah, was everybody a bad guy and maybe Appropriate Appropriate that this week's movie is written by a guy named David Webb to kick off a series that begs the question are we the baddies? Mmm, right. Yes, we're the portmanteau of David Mitchell Robert Webb David Webb peoples. I've heard of Go on David and Webb peep show But David Webb peeples David Webb peeples also wrote the screenplay for Blade Runner I've heard I've heard of not only heard of it.
I've seen it. Oh, okay. He also uncredited writer of Lady Hawk sort of like a bird with big boobs Bird with tits That's got it. I don't like it.
Um, you ever watch Lady Hawk? No, I haven't it's like a sorcery fantasy kind of movie with Matthew Broderick and What's your name Michelle Flyfer that white gold that white gold sir? And and it's a Richard Donnery. I should watch this in record how we're in the show.
Yeah And Roy Batty himself. That's right. Roy Batty and a baddie in one movie together. I Mean Michelle Flyfer might be the baddie.
She's Certainly the titular Lady Hawk. I don't know. I've never seen it. Oh, okay, probably right.
I'm sick of talking about this. She's not Wow, she's not I don't know who Lee. I don't know if that's even a guy or a gal So she is she she is Lee Hawk. Oh shit.
See lady. Okay. Okay. Glad we sorted that out So this week we're starting our Western series with kind of it's not the last Western ever made right many Westerns were made after this But it does feel like the end of a certain thing the end of like the Clint Eastward Western which so we're talking an unforgivent 1992, right?
The Eastwood Western It's such a what are you gonna with the North North and Northern Grummond or something? What? South by Southwest all these cardinal directions you're throwing at me Eastwood Western. Yeah, what are you doing?
It's an East it's Western. Oh, does it you mean he's selling pewter dragon statues and drugs and samurai swords? I wish No, do they have those everywhere? Well, people know about East meets West The yeah, that's like a mall thing.
I think that's like chain like a Spencer's Spencer's for just weed guys. Yeah for like weed guys and like people into like crystals But like you know don't want to drive too far to like a crystal store. It is so yeah They write the look I'm much as been made of it But we should at least acknowledge this sort of like cognitive dissonance of like I'm on the spiritual journey And I must go to the mall for my supply of course. Yeah, it's so funny.
It's all time Now the Clint Eastwood Western which was like It's so on on Friday this coming Friday on our patreon patreon.com slash gaming pod sign up for the five dollar I'm up here. You got a bonus episode every Friday get a week free to get a week free test it out test the waters You might like it link in the show notes benefits like a glove Is that like Eastwood was in Westerns before a fistful of dollars, but it does feel like fistful of dollars is like this demarcation where it's like um You know this American actor or whatever. He's in the spaghetti western. It's made by a bunch of Italians and then but it catches like surgery only it's just like a master craftsman.
He just makes amazing movies and It's this turn in the genre that like before that it's very um, you know, it's John Lane, right? It's uh, uh, you know the the manager shot liberty valance. It's these westerns, but they're they're movies, right? They're pictures they're clean or they're cleaner, you know, they're made by like studios that like Okay, I was gonna say what do you mean clean?
Yeah, well like as far as I'm concerned these guys are all covered in dust and dirt and sure The you know the when you what like that you watched some fistful dollars today, right? That's it Everybody in that movie is fucking dirty as hell. Yeah, everybody's looking real good. It looks great Yeah, and there's this I mean this is a western thing in general But like the sort of blurring of like good and bad like it's this very vague sort of thing Who's a good guy?
Are there any good guys that kind of shit? Um, the man with no name series is just like it's Clint Eastwood being like just kind of a badass Um, and like none of cigar. Yeah, chompin on cigar Not you know playing the fistful dollars. He's playing you know both sides against each other They're like he's just out for himself kind of a thing right an anti-hero and that's You know throughout the 70s and you know, I think beginning of the 80s and stuff He's in these other westerns, you know, like high plains drifter and all these other things or Josie whales where he's like You know, it's he's still doing like there's pathos to all these characters, but they're like You know, it's like this villainous sort of thing.
There's just like not he's not an out now villain, but again anti-hero And then this movie feels like his like stamp final statement on on like this character it's You say it's like spiritual sequel to all of those movies. It's the end of that kind of character for him and I think like this the way that This movie plays out. It's you know two hours and for roughly the first hour and a half He's just kind of not weak, but so like he's a humbled man. You know saying I don't do that I don't think I used to be a piece of shit.
Yeah bottle whiskey He used to be a piece of shit people people change people can change and I think this movie one of the things this movie is is putting out there is maybe they can't change Or maybe you always got that dog in you maybe always got that dog in you and that doesn't you right because he's like he's got he's like He's got a higher calling here, right? Like he's got these things that he cares about and that's a part of him now. Yeah but it's like Yeah, it got that dog and the only you know, he's sort of alluded to that the only Reason a lot of these guys are able to like live that life is by drinking themselves into like a stupor Like drinking the the person out of themselves basically. Yeah drinking machine in and out Yeah, so it's like the dark in the light.
It's all in there. It's good boy. Is he good at killing? I mean he was pretty good at killing the way that last scene.
Yeah And though yeah, I mean, okay, so I want to make sure I watch fish full of dollars With this right yeah like before talking about this because obviously this is like in conversation with everything that comes It comes up to this point. Yes And uh, the way that last scene is like reframed, you know, it's like it's like a trope of These of these like western seemingly. Yeah, I'm not that familiar with westerns, but um The way reframals showdown. Sure.
Yeah. Yeah, yeah, um, the way that the rest of the movie reframes it up to that point is nothing short of brilliant It's really good though. I mean, it's like it's like that that sort of like That little bit of satisfaction right because like there's something villainous about Maybe I'm the only one who feels this way, but there's something somewhat villainous about Gene Hackman's character. Yes But uh, even even giving him the line of being like I was building a house I know where it's like these guys are all like It's just like total circumstance, you know happenstance that like brings them to this arrangement this configuration of guys like They're all fucking Scum Yeah, and it just this happens to be how that where the chips land for each of them.
So it's like yeah I mean, I I think this movie this movie I think covers a lot of There's a lot of themes a lot of things that it's commenting on right like both main characters you got Clint Eastwood as bill money and Or will money and gene hackman as little bill right they have the same fucking name uh, they're kind of two sides of the same coin where like eastwood is like, you know, this angel of death by the end of it and he uh little bill Thinks of himself as this tough guy or whatever, but really he's kind of like he's just kind of throwing his weight around You know, he's only he's only you only seem like uh, he's very into like self-emphthalagizing. He's very um When he's beating up on english bobber, whatever and and you seem like whatever anytime he is enforcing his power over somebody It's because he has like a clear advantage. Yeah, like he has five guys behind him that with guns on whoever he's kicking the shit out of you know He's a bit of a coward that way and that is like I mean, that's such a great sort of like meta statement on like the people who Take the wrong things away from these movies. Sure.
You know, it's like anyone Willing to like buy into that kind of mythologizing is like a carrot and you talk about like, you know Will money and a little bill having the same name. There's that same sort of like mirroring or I guess transference is maybe the better word between Little bill in english bob, right where they just sort of like pass You know like bow shamp just like goes from one guy to the next yes And like doesn't even matter who's telling him this bullshit because it's all kind of the same bullshit. It's all the same bullshit. Yeah, yeah Yeah, so and then you know all the uh, you know, of course the masculinity of the whole thing of westerns in general of You know the sexism of the west and how like and this will be especially like the women are just treated like Property right yeah like literally cutting someone up is uh, give him a horse give give her pimp a horse.
Yes. Yes Um, so let's so this is directed by klene's wood, right? And action and cut we got in one moving on yeah, he's a real get in one kind of kind of guy Kind of amazing like I mean, I don't know there's not I mean jean hackman's just like this movie is full of fucking prose That's why it kind of why it works But it does feel like amazing that like knowing that this movie is as like good and full-ass our performances as it is of course Um, yeah, this movie won a ton of Oscars for you know one best picture best director someone. This is fucking good.
Um, So we guys coffin performance It wasn't good. Yeah. All right more again. Yeah, play dead That's it.
Uh, actually I think we should we should probably get that one again Yeah, actually that was bad 50 takes more than the coffin Um said jean hackman as little bill. He's a sheriff of big whiskey Is this Wyoming? I think we're on this right? You know what i'm asking right?
What's that? Where's the grew grucks king? I hear that i'm like where is that boy tinsley? I've got violin.
It was jean sports. I can hear his jean sport swishing on his back Remember that one boy tinsley was the he was like a spokesman for jean sport. I have no idea what you're talking about Any of it. I know what jean sport is and after that I got nothing You know what big whiskey and the grew grucks king is I know that big whiskey and the grew grucks grew grucks king is a day That's right.
That's right. I sort of a later era day Matthew's album Boy tinsley who's a player for the fuse ban mr. Ants marching himself and he was the spokesman He could be the mule that the man with no name rides in on you. That's right the way he's saying he ha he ha he ha which calls me that That's over bullet.
I guess um yaman Cut that I'm not gonna anything dan no that's sort of like a verbal i was like reading something on the wicket p.p page So that I just did like a verbal tick. Yeah Yeah, i'm gonna i slip into uh petois yeah into my chad hanks My a dream brody. Yeah, my dream brody impressions Um, let's say chad hang chas. What's his name?
His real name chat. Oh, what's it? Okay chad haze chad haze is what i was trying Is this really no i don't know if his real name's jet i don't know Chad hang uh doesn't matter anyway a morgan freeman as ned logan in this movie Um former partner of will money chu-ned chu trees right two trees. Um, yes.
Yeah, ned Uh, yeah former partner used to ride with with with will money back in the day they did I mean I I love how this movie constantly alludes to how bad a guy will money was but what a piece of shit He was before is used to be a piece of shit. He used to be a piece of shit. Um, but the way that like I don't know everybody like Eastwood keeps like, you know will keeps playing it down. He's like, no, I used to be bad and uh, I don't do that kind of thing anymore white pants But he's like Somebody brings up like oh, yeah, I heard you killed those two guys and he's like, yeah, I don't know I guess and then later on like ned is like wasn't it three guys?
He's like, I don't know I was pretty drunk at the time this is like Weren't you like a bigger badass than even the legend is saying Finding out is like the worst version of finding out that you did purple rain a karaoke the night before Yeah, he did it all eight minutes No, no, he brought his own CD. Um, you got a Richard Harris as english bob a uh, A gunman an assassin on the a fraud a fraud kind of a fraud, you know, like one of these guys He's another self-mythologizer, right? He has um in tow with him. Uh, he has what's the name?
W. W. Uh, bow shop. Oh, shop played by soul Rubenick.
It's a little Rubenick. The goat. We love us all Rubenick here Uh, it was a romantic. I was that what it was?
We watched her romance whenever that was like a year and a half ago, but that's probably that's probably what it was Um, yeah, he's got his great character actor grief face on this guy. Um, let's see Yeah, I think that might be like the thing that we would know him from Um also in this movie the scofield kid, uh, James Wold it James with a Z James with a Z at the end J a I am Z now. That's the kind of thing I don't care for Do you think it's like the sort of thing where like then like someone in SAG was already named James Wold it and that was his work around be like whatever I don't I don't take this acting thing too seriously anyway. Just make it James as a lark.
I guess I mean It didn't seem to work out for him. Like he had someone of an acting career, but this is definitely the biggest thing he was in. Yeah, he's fine in it too He's fine. He's pretty annoying his character, but that's the point Um He's you know, he's uh, he's constantly uh puffing himself up, right?
Um, who else he got Francine Fisher as strawberry Alice kind of the she's not quite the madam of the uh the brothel here, um, but she is like maybe the leader of she's the mouthpiece of the uh, uh, uh, all of the prostitutes here Um She's really I mean, she's good. She's so she's like pretty bloodthirsty. Yeah You know, she's off there. It's about maybe one of the most bloodthirsty people in the movie So little so little justice for an old west sex worker.
So gotta take it where you can get it. Yeah, um, she's also Oh, Francine Fisher is in the movie rust which of course all rust biopic. No, it's the the movie I like balden shot and killed somebody on oh, I actually forgot. That's what it was called.
Did that come out? Yeah, it's out. That's crazy. That's crazy.
That's how you just go watch it. Yeah She you know who else she is who else former wife of kalini's would they have a kid together? They're Jessica yeah heard of her her american actress socialite and television personality of francesca Ruth fisheries wood Now this is another thing with uh uh, cline's wood is that he can't stop fucking uh, uh, he is I mean a coxman he's a Stickman he's a bit of a stickman that way. You know, here's the thing and again.
I just watched a fistful of dollars I would be too. How could you not? I mean even just like when he takes his hat off. You're like holy shit that guy's absolutely stunned He's it's like the best anybody's ever looked as him with like 10 pounds of grime on his face Yeah, franceen fish are not married to cline eastwood.
Oh, they just did it. Yeah, they just did it Um, they were partners. They just screwed in doing it. Yeah, they just screwed a lot Um, which was kind of a issue.
You know what that makes her Uh english franceen. I don't know what a bird It's a bit of a bird um Yeah, cline eastwood was um, I forget the woman's name Yeah, but like he would do that he would be like with you know, he'd be dating a woman for an extended period time They would live together the whole thing Not be married he would have kids with that person and also when he was on set He was also like I have to fuck every half an hour or whatever So he would you know always have like women around and wait at really not every half hour But he would oh yeah, he was like, so that's why it's one take one and done Yeah, so he can go one and I get back to fucking My my real passion the the direct the directing just pays for my yeah, it just affords me the opportunity to Doesn't zerrozas are expensive. Yeah, he has eight kids Um and only three of them are from his wives Uh, so you know, and I think that's one of those things where like every every so often another kid pops up I mean like I think I'm an eastwood. I'm in it.
Yeah, I got this crazy voice I We have uh, and an atomist or it's uh, Thompson Thompson Thompson as Delilah Uh, we also saw her in true romance. She's in the opening scene at the bar with christian Slater When he's like I would fuck Elvis would you fuck Elvis that scene? Oh? Uh, a lot of true romances.
Yeah, a lot of my man tics like they're fans because they were in it. Yeah Um Yeah, she plays the uh The prostitute they got their face all sliced up in the beginning so I love this for this whole thing class in case of a movie where they're like My god, she's hideous. Yeah, she's got like she's just a beautiful woman with little cups on her face Yeah, she got some scars. Yeah, especially like in the old west when like everybody's like I've just been looking at Grows old fucking beef jerky men for whatever and you're like, oh my god.
Look at her face. I can't I couldn't possibly have sex with that girl That's terrible gross gross gross Um Who else who else there's quick mic and uh, Davey bunting who those are the guys that uh, the bad man that that cut up the girl's face Um, not really any anybody we need to know about there's skinny who's the he's the bartender owners of the establishment He's also like the pimp that um, you know owns these these here ladies Um Also in let's see. It's a high plains drifter the eastwood movie. Mm-hmm.
Um, other season. Yeah, um, so yeah, uh, these are our characters here Um I just think everybody's so fucking good in this. Yeah, like I I don't know it's easy. I feel like it's easier to forget like especially with cleanse would be like 99 years old I'm being like, I'm a mule Yeah, I have to and he's having like three sums in the movie when he's 90 some years old and whatever What is this?
What are we doing? See that's that's the thing it's like the skeleton man He doesn't have a lot of time left so he can't even do it between no he has to film himself having penetrative sex and putting it in the movies I wrote a new scene into the movie. I had a I had an idea last night while I was watching skin mix some Sort of my watching softcore porn out of you last night sort of my oud Um, and I thought why not me But he got the name got muscle muscles under my skin bone density all teeth Yeah, but and that's the other thing too about this fucking movie is that eastwood was like 60 and hold on I think he's 61 or two when they film this good for him So he's you know early 60s when they make this and he looks old yeah, but but he looks like a fucking spring chicken Compared to what he looks like now and what we've seen for the past 20 years or whatever. It's true It's it's so crazy to watch like and that was part of the thing with this movie too It's like oh, it's like an old man gunslinger who's got who's like you know strapping on his gun one last time kind of a thing And you're like wow fucking eastwood is looking old, you know This is not the man with no name anymore This is not the good the bad and the ugly clean eastwood where he's a fucking stud He's an old man and you know fucking 25 years later.
They're like and Intervenal Get off my lawn Yeah, it's crazy. Do you have him was there a dollar macho Man's crying macho. Yeah tears my eyes macho style Rob I got an idea. Well, we take a break.
Can we take a break? Okay, I gotta go Become unforgiven okay in the bathroom. All right. We'll be right back.
We're back. We're back. We're not that we're not good Uh, we were just talking of course on back I'm back Turned me back to the old me yeah speaking of fucking around clean eastwood. We were talking about clean eastwood clean eastwood stick man Um, you got uh, so the character of will money Uh, you know, he's we get this opening chiron or whatever where it explains like You know this uh his wife, um who had died A few years before the movie takes place.
Uh, she basically like cleaned him up got him sober Uh showed him the errors of his ways and now he's like a good man, you know, I guess I shouldn't have killed all those women and children Yeah, I guess I see your point. I guess I see your point now. You bring up interesting points and If this was a couple years ago, I maybe shot you for bringing up those points, but now I love you and I'll change my ways I'll farm pigs and have two kids with you. Yeah Um So that's like that's the general like the setup here for his character is like used to be a bad guy is now tried to be like kind of reformed um And then yeah, like we don't see him again for another like now in 20 minutes or so, but uh The catalyst the whole thing that kicks this thing off so we we're in this brothel Um, we see you know, uh some guy plowing away a woman And then uh, there's a kerfuffle outside and it was like what's going on out there and uh, they go into the other room And there's a guy with a knife who's like waving it at this woman and he's like she everybody's screaming and and he's like oh fucking kill you You know, well, it's nasty shit turns out She laughed at his little penis.
So we've yes we find out that all so he slices up her face. Um, and his friend holds her down while he does it Um cuts her her, you know Just like slices and cuts across her face whenever Um, and yes, we find out that the reason that he did it was when he took his pants off Uh, she let out a little giggle as strawberry alla says and here's the here's the thing that is tiny pecker Yep If you if you're embarrassed of your little pecker. Yeah Should you call so much attention to it that you slice like a woman open and yeah slice in the lady And just generally yelling and you know directly everyone's attention to the situation Yeah, I mean like I would say in every way quick mic played this poorly. Well quick mic accuses her of stealing Okay, quick mic stealing his dignity.
That's right with her little giggle with her little giggle Um and strawberry Alice is the one who's like no, that's not what happened. She didn't steal anything She just giggled at his tiny penis. Um when he took it out You know just to give him a hair of credit here. Uh-huh.
It's one thing if just like, you know Some Chica laughs at your little penis But a lady who's presumably seen like the whole spectrum of what can happen between a man's legs She's like now that's a little penis. I guess that would sting. So you're saying you're kind of on quick mic side here. I'm saying I'm a bit of a quick ban.
I know I'm saying I kind of retract my statement about not understanding why he would Become so enraged. I guess also he's a dirty lowdown old west guy. Yeah, he's a he's a you're no good son of a bitch. Yeah Um, so right they um There's a whole fucking thing.
She gets her face all cut up. They have to call on the sheriff played by jin happen little bill um, these two guys uh, davy and quick mic are tied up in the bar room area and uh, Little bill, you know, he shows up strawberry Alice says like tells him what happened like she giggled and he lost his mind He started slicing her up and shit and then uh, little bill this is like You know, he's got like this sort of like cocky swag re-additude He's like I'm I'm in charge here I'm the law and whatever right and he's like all right get my whip right and then strawberry Alice is like You're just gonna whip him? You know, she cut up he cut up her face And this is where skinny the owner of the establishment steps in and he's like that little bill like come on I I have a contract here with this lady that you know, she is she is to work for me Essentially, she's like it's this whole like ownership kind of thing where now Uh, Delilah with her face all cut up is damaged property to skinny This guy damaged my property and I want some sort of restitution here and uh And little bills like all right you guys have ponies and he's like they're like, yeah And he's like all right come springtime you owe You know the guy that did the cutting owes five ponies and the guy that held her down owes two And and then strawberry Alice is like you're not even gonna whip him And uh and and this has got some like bullshit. Yeah, it's like hasn't enough bloodshed You know, have you seen enough blood tonight or whatever?
He's just so despondent at the point Yeah, he doesn't I mean It also this is all he doesn't care about the women No, he's like he spends the rest of the movie like beating the absolute shit out of people Yeah, but he also with these guys, uh, he's he basically is just like listen. They're good boys Yeah, you know they always will be boys. I'm told it's it's the same shit that you know Nothing changes nothing fucking changes man. Yeah, yeah, it's like literally judges present day judges have said that about like You know rapists proven rapists and shit and be like well what you're gonna ruin this boy's life He's got his whole life ahead of him and just because of one mistake and you're like what?
You know and that's what little bill is doing you're not even gonna whip him. You're not even gonna whip him Um, so yeah, they're all and then we see the all the women the prostitutes they get together They have a meeting they're like they're talking about how much money they have saved up and they're like we're gonna hire a fucking a killer To to kill these two guys. We're you know fucking we're gonna get revenge. We want blood and um I do this scene is interesting because uh delilah doesn't even she isn't even that interested in getting the revenge it's more Alice and Everybody's like why are you like you know, the island doesn't even care about this all that much like why you know, why do you why you so on this and Alice being a little bit older probably having been in this business for a long time has seen enough and experienced enough where she's like She she says she's like just because they write us like horses doesn't mean we're horses.
We're whores. We're not horses You know, we're gonna play. We're gonna play But she's like we're people but and they can't just treat us like this and get away with it like it seems like it's there's also more to it too This is not just about these two guys. This is about every guy.
Maybe Alice has ever you know, uh run afala or you know, whatever um So that's that's the sort of so they put they put the word out You know, they're they're looking for a killer and they'll pay him a thousand dollars. It's a lot of money in the old west That's I can't what do you think that's worth now old less money now? I mean like it's gotta be over 10 grand anymore. I don't know Yeah Got it pretty good and all you got two is to all you got all you got to do is kill two guys who Tiner earned it two shi heads two absolute fucking cowboys.
Yeah, um and this is when we we meet back up with Uh with will money here and we see will and he's a pig farmer He's got his two kids and he's pretty bad at being a pig farmer. Um, it does not come natural. Yeah There there's like that banjo song playing. That's like doing doing doing doing doing doing doing doing doing doing doing Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, the music that plays when you're chasing a pig around a barnyard.
Yeah chasing a sow. Yeah, um This is also like a bit of like literary uh Flare is that his name is will money and what does he need money? I will get some money um And the the mirroring too here of like will being a bad farmer and then a little bill being a bad carpenter You know that these these two guys The movie is just so tight the script is really tight and like The the mirroring of these two guys and they you know We know more about will money's past than we do little bills even though little bill does sort of like when he when he's talking about Bo Shomp, uh, he does you know tell some stories about his younger years when he like, you know killed this guy and you know Whatever, but he has a past too, right? And it seems like he was probably not as bad as well money not like a villain not evil But probably still a bad guy and has it, you know, and now he's you know in quotations a good guy, right?
He's uh, you know, he's the sheriff of this town. He's the law, but you know, he still has a past He's a bad guy and and what is he good at he's good at being like a big blustery fucking asshole Yeah, and he's not good at building houses and yeah, there's um, oh my god. What's ever read? Huck Finn Uh, yeah, I mean a million years ago.
Yeah Was the do you remember the child of calamity? Mm. No, is that what he's called? Child of yeah, it's literally it's like it's just a passage in hub femme where some big below-vating assholes start talking about what a badass he is.
It's real childhood real child of calamity behavior Real heads. I mean any look if any of our listeners are like a barefoot boys Rindon river rafts. Yep. Don't know what I'm talking about If you and that's kind of what they sound like too.
Yeah, yeah You might be huckleberry Finn. Yeah might be a fin So will will series you know, he's he's got the two kids. He's got a son and a daughter right in there It's trying to just be a pig farmer and the pigs are getting sick. I told you I'm like killing anymore I just like in my pig sick.
Yeah, I just I got sick pigs. I got a Two kids sick pigs dead wife. Yeah, I mean it's it's a rough story for for a will money here It's not good. No, he's bad at this he uh Yeah, the farm's failing like it's it's plain as day.
Yes, and uh, and that's when uh, the scofield kid Uh rides up and he's basically like you don't look like uh, you know, a murderer and killer and he's like what? Who? And he's like so they they get to talking or whatever. He's like I'm the scofield kid on account of I hear He's like are you from scofield?
He's like no, it's because I got this scofield gun that I kill everybody with It's very uh, you know, he's like he's a boy. He's a young he is a kid and he's like, uh, he's basically saying I'm the rudeness tootenist He's very rudeness tootenist code is yeah, he's written tooten son bitch. Yeah, uh, he'd have you believe he'd have you believe if yes um I I mean it's so I you know the kid is annoying in this but I think it's it's played well and like the way that he's so Sort of uh, it's not even cocky. I don't even he's just like Constantly the way that he's constantly trying to convince everyone including himself that he is this this killer of men That's he's this tough guy.
Um there's a And or mine. I won't get into it. But there's a whole steady song about a guy who he's uh, he wants people to call him drop dead Fred because he kills people Mm, but that everyone calls him five alive because the five guys he says he killed he didn't really kill Five alive five alive because there's the live yeah, the same thing Um, so uh the scofield kid here he tells him tells will about this uh job he heard about that uh, you know this uh, uh, Would you be interested in being my partner on this uh, this here? Venture we have to go kill two cowboys.
They they cut up a cut up a whore and they cut out her eyes and cut out her tongue and Come up for fingers and they even cut off her teats Yeah, again the sort of like tall tailing of everything. Yeah, and the way that will is like Jesus Christ And that really happened that's fucked up And uh, of course this you know, there's like a he needs the money. He's got a dead wife Wife can't imagine another lady dying the thought that even the possibility of it. Yeah, um We should mention though that uh young will money.
Um, the boy here the boy, um, is a uh, king alum Yeah, shane thomas mirror, uh, he was in he plays the uh the kid in uh, needful things He's uh, yeah, the one who gets like the baseball card. Yeah. Yeah, yeah, of course He touches the ball and he's like I was there. Yeah, or the card or whatever, you know, yeah I was there.
He says I was there. Um, and then he has the gun. He's like I'm gonna fucking I'm gonna fucking kill myself Yes, I'm gonna kill myself in the barn. Oh, oh fucking kill myself.
This sucks. I hate this shit. Um, I hate this shit So I got played so hard by the devil fucking devil got me And this one he's like a teak sword devil fucking got me did this one is just like oh, if you forgot my pig this fucking sucks This fucking sucks. This is crazy.
He's like hey I'm gonna leave you parentheses 10 years old alone with your sister parentheses eight years old. Yeah, uh for two weeks Can you run the farm while I'm gone? I mean Different time latchkey kids latchkey kids kids were raised by tv You know it was a better time. Uh, they're gonna grow up to do improv.
I'm telling you Uh, you know, uh, not a not a cell phone in sight here, Dan. Yeah, we got scrapes on our knees. We got we got hog fever I can't fever from the hogs Hey dad, this fever's got hog fever too. All right.
We'll put it with the other hug fever That's funny. They just keep getting sick over the core over the span of like a 30 minute conversation I think some of those prostitutes have hog fever if you know what I mean I don't think they're like I don't think their eyes are like slot machines that stop on eggplants, you know I don't think they're like loving the hog. They don't love hogs. I don't think so.
It's just a job for them horses love hogs They're not horses. They're not horses. They're talking about their horse their words their words in the parlance of the times um So yeah, I'm not a At their mind. I was gonna try to do something with like pig and doing that right?
It's like I'm not a pig Farmer. Yes. I got nothing Um, so come in springtime. So let's go field kid.
He leaves. He's like fine. Will uh don't help me I'll go kill these sons of bitches myself. I mean why he's like bumping in every wall He walks past because he's near sighted.
Yeah, he's near so I can't see shit As he's right away will is looking on and like you know my kids is like paw three of the pigs just died Crap We need some more money So come springtime the one guy davy Uh the one who held the lila down Um, he he shows up with his two horses, right? and he's like here the horses that I owe you whatever and uh And yeah, they're like the other guy does not come through with the horses and this whole thing here where like you know He uh the women feel like they've They've been given main ji old horses and and davis like oh they're good. They're good And then they start throwing mud at him and shit and uh And then he takes off right davy here it seems like he's trying to like Do the right thing right in quotations. He's like well, I was supposed to do this and uh, you know, I'm not I'm not you know, I don't know a crumb of remorse or something.
Yeah, something like that. Yeah, um So uh back on the money farm, uh Will is like Fuck. Oh my goodness. This thing prints novel hog viruses What did I ever think trying to be a hog farmer?
Um, oh it's You know Because it's on hog farm but uh fistful of ham. Yeah, yeah, but the shot of him like moving his wife's picture so he could get his guns You know, it's just like sorry sweetheart. I'm gonna have to maybe you'll have to No, first I have to first I have to shoot all of our hugs because they're dying of fever And if any bullets left it all I'll go kill those men for money. Yeah.
Hey, wait a minute. That's my name. Um What a complicated guy Yeah, and then he uh he does the thing where he's like trying to shoot a coffee can or something and he can't so he It's a shotgun and fucking shoots it off of the thing. Um And then he has like a little conversation with the tombstone of his dead wife.
He's like, hey, baby Hey, I know I said I never do this but we're in desperate times right now Uh, you know, I gotta do I still love you and and then he's like and then he tells his kids like all right I'll be back in two weeks like just make keep the farm running here. Kids are like, all right Yeah, if you have any trouble just go talk to sally two trees. Yes, so I talked to sally two trees Where will money is going but not so much to talk to sally. He says hey sally isn't at home Uh, this is uh before he leaves though.
This is a good moment where he's trying to get on the horse and he's right. Yeah, falling in shit Um and then he he tells his kids He's like well these animals are getting back at me for all the wickedness and how I treated how I used to treat animals, right? And knowing what we know about like You know his backstory and it's like oh my god. What were you doing?
I'm talking about like I was real wicked with these horses you stay here. I'm gonna get a stool. I need to fuck these horses Um, you just imagine just fucking killing everything in sight, you know, yeah, I mean part of right It's like that it happens later in the movie, but like you're trying to get a guy on horseback Yeah, sometimes you shoot the horse. Yeah, that's the least of it.
I'm sure that's the least of it Um So we get to see where uh skinny goes to a little bill's house and he's like hey, uh, just want to let you know that um some of the girls they uh, uh, you know, set up uh, They made a They sent out a message basically offering a reward to kill those two cowboys and Little bills like I probably reached texas by now. God damn it. Well, I'm sure nobody's gonna show up And then uh people hate a thousand dollars. They hate a thousand dollars.
Um Let me see will goes stops over his old partner Ned's house And he's like, you know, tell us about the whole story this woman. She got all cut up and shit And he's like I'm gonna go after him. I need the money. That is a thousand dollars and Ned's like And he's hesitant his wife is there who like doesn't say yeah, she's just glaring at him the entire time Yeah, so fucking pissed She you have to imagine that she either knows will or knows all of the stories and just like this guy is bad news and I don't want him in my house Um, and then that's yeah, that's like all right.
Well, if it's a three-way split then uh, I'm in so they write off and uh Yeah, they uh, um, we get there's a little bit of where like, you know, Ned will talks about like, you know, no I don't uh, I don't do any of this thing. I don't drink anymore. Stop all that He says it throughout the movies like I don't do that sort of thing anymore Right until he's until he's doing it until he's fucking doing that shit Uh, and then we get like all this the stuff with english bahd on the train, right? He's uh, yeah Is this sort of he has this uh air about him right this sort of aristocratic, um, english and you know, the sophistication or whatever um, and he Was he like makes a pet with like somebody on the the train that he can shoot more birds From the moving train that this guy can and any wins and all this shit.
It's this whole fucking display um And he's he is there with uh, boshamp who is like who's his autobiography or his biographer, not all my own for and uh, you know He's just writing down all the stories and uh, he's he already published a book called the the duke of death the duck of death Uh, again very funny very funny. Um, it would be funny if he was his autobiography just the guy following him around so that he can write his own life story Yeah I'm writing the biography of ww boshamp Can I stand five feet for me with all things? Uh, but english bahd gets into town here and uh, one of the deputies that comes up He's like you can't have the you're can't have any guns on you though. The woke town of big whiskey.
Yeah, no guns Um, and english bahd he's like he's got his coat kind of opening you can see he's gone He's like I don't have any guns on me. So then the deputy goes back to the like the sheriff's office And you see everybody just fucking like loading up and he's like these guys I seem like fucking blood hurt with blood thirsty animals and all this shit They're like hyping themselves up for this all of these guys seem like Um, you know like cowards and and people who haven't actually experienced any any real sort of nasty business, you know, yeah, it I want to get political there. No, it feels like present day when like assholes are like Oh, if that was me things would have went down different when the fucking when cock just like when cops show up in like fucking tactical gear Sure, all rights are yes. Yeah, some unarmed person having a mental health episode or something.
Absolutely. Yes, like we're going to war We're going to war. We are. Yeah, like and I don't know.
Yeah I don't want to get blown. Well, it's I mean this movie. There's politics to it. You know, of course This is a movie about american so many ways all westerns are all westerns are stories of america in a sense Aren't we all just like watching our 50 pigs die fall over like goddamn domino's because of the pig flu?
Yeah, they uh, I mean there is something to it though, right? Just like the Trying to be an honest man. You can't get ahead in this godforsaken country Unless you're put you're ventilating someone. Yes, pigs are gonna die because your pigs are gonna die and your wife This is a thing not a queen to go on no no different western though.
Uh, mckayben miss miller, right? Uh, robert altman directed Warren vady and uh, I can't think of the woman's name miss miss miller. Yeah, miss miller Uh, they they started brothel where she's he's running the place and she's the madam and they have this whole thing set up and whatever And then like and it's a small western town like, you know, very small very up and coming kind of a thing and then like the big Incotations corporation at the time sort of they're they're moving in right the one guy makes Uh, warm baby's character and offer he's like, I'll buy out right now and he doesn't want to sell want to make it It's a chain of brothels. Yeah, well essentially.
Yeah, david buster's yes It's like I'll buy out and and and they're like we're not for sale and they're like, okay Well, then we have to kill you, you know because of capitalism because we didn't give you what I wanted And i'm pretty upset. Yeah, and you know again just sorry Just a different story of america american capitalism and shit like that and then you know, yeah Mikayv has to strap on his guns, which he doesn't do he's not a gunman like that but he has to do it And and yeah, this is america, baby So all of these guys all these deputies or whatever they're like uh, they're loading up their guns a couple of them are like I'd say anxious a little scared of the whole situation, right? Um But uh english bob and bow shomp they they walk out of like a general store and they're immediately surrounded by all these guys And little bill walks up and he starts, you know Sort of being cocky about the whole thing. He's like english bob, you know, he's uh, he's not the You know, he says he says english bob his real name's clearance Really?
He really takes him to task. He does take him to task. I do have a friend named english bob that shot himself I can't pick a lane here. No, you're all over the place.
I can't decide i can't decide who english bob is in my My analogy Um English bob so he yeah, this whole scene plays out where little bill He has to disarm english bob and once he takes his guns he just beats the shit out of him in the street He's kicking him and all this shit and he he's saying he's like, uh, you you think i'm kicking you right now, bob But what i'm doing here is showing this town basically like i'm in charge and I don't care, you know I don't care what those women are offering. Uh, nobody's gonna come into my town and kill anybody on the law around here essentially And uh, yeah, so he just beats the shit out of english bob right there in the street Um pretty good stuff. Um throws him in the in the in the fucking hole in the brig in the brig in the brig Um after that we get will and ned the writing right? Um and I think they there's this one they're talking about like women and stuff and uh, I think he's like I think ned asked him.
He's like it's like so, uh, you know I don't know if he's asking about these women in particular Talks about women and having sex or whatever and will is just like no, I don't do that anymore And he's like so you just use your hand and and then he looks on And then they start getting shot at right like oh shit Uh will falls off its horse. Uh, they have to like duck down and shit and whoever's shooting on him is kind of shooting wild And they're like what the fuck and then he's like will yell's out is like is that you kid? And uh, and then they meet up it's it's a scofield kid and they're like what the fuck you're like you're shooting all over the place and Like they like figure it out like fairly quick that uh scofield kid can't can't see all that far He's nearsighted right? Yeah, that's pretty and for like a gunman.
That's not great. It's it's a disadvantage It's a disadvantage to not be able to like shoot at somebody from far away. Yeah Yeah, it has to be real close and when you're up real close to you might get shot yourself too way um Ned and and the kid here they they get into it like quite a bit during their their time together And Scofield kid pulls his gun on net a couple times and he's just like on the root is too much on vision or you didn't see All the shit right and that's just like uh-huh And i got a big hat Scofield kid says he killed uh five people five men Yeah And and later on that's like s will he's like you think he killed five and he's like no Obviously not obviously not don't think he killed anyone. Yeah, which turns out to be true um Yeah, and then uh Well, we got the scene where uh in the jail cell right english bob lay in there and bushamp It's talking to uh little bill and little bill It like little bill is reading this this book the duck of death right and tells his whole story about he you know shot this guy And little bill is like i was actually there and i know exactly what happened and uh they didn't call this guy two gun For because he carried two guns say call him two guns because he had one gun and his dick was so big it was the size of a gun and And he was fucking a girl that english bob was interested in and english bob didn't like that so They got into a whole thing and Yeah, this guy ends up shooting himself in the foot cheddar bob style major cheddar bob move.
Yeah And then the gun blows up in his hand and that's when english bob uh comes over and fucking ventilates the guy kills him Um, that was very clarifying for me. No, I know who the cheddar bob in this movie is it's that guy two gun p or whatever Yeah, but english bob, I guess is Clarence I guess these clearance parents have a real denerage Um, and this is like this whole scene, you know, fuck little bill is just being like he's very cocky right? To the point where he gives uh What's his name? Bo-champ?
He gives him a gun. He's like here here's a gun here the keys if you shoot me right now Then you can walk out of here for ink clear, but it's it's a different thing to actually shoot somebody and kill them And this guy Bo-champ is like he can't do it right? And then he uh he's like but what if I give it to bob right give the guns a bob he's like go ahead do it and He almost like bob almost takes a gun but then he doesn't and then he's You know bill comes over and empties the gun and there were bullets in it But it did seem it seemed like that one chamber the next chamber was empty Yeah, so he would have fired it would have clicked and nothing would have happened and that's when you know Little bill would have shot him. Yeah, um he stacked the deck.
He did there's a it's a comeback It's so bitch this is where I think the like Clint Eastwood one take get his little shoot the whole movie You know do it in camera or whatever. Yeah, there's like there's a shot. It's like POV POV your english bob Yeah, right and it's like uh gene crossing little bill crossing the room toward him Yeah, and it's like both times they use it. It seems like it's covering something they need to edit around I'm just like damn.
It's a cool shot. We should hung on that longer Unfortunately you have exactly as much footage as there is runtime in this movie. That's it That's all we got we are like we use every part of the every part of the film canister. Yeah, yeah, we're like cowboys resourceful Um it's funny because cowboy is like a slur basically Like in in real life being a cowboy just makes you like sort of like a low class piece of shit Well, yeah, cowboy was like a job.
Yeah, where you were like, I'm a ranch hand so i'm a cowboy or whatever Not a good job. No, it's you're like, yeah, like a laborer um and then yeah, you just like Uh it just evolved into like everybody's a cowboy and and that's cool and that's cool and you sell cigarettes You look cool when you smoke them You're a man, uh, and I want to be a man too. So I need to smoke cigarettes um So yeah, uh like all this the uh Fucking the Ned and will and scofield there they're heading over to the town, right? It's raining Uh, will it seems to be getting sick, uh, which is funny.
He got he got hog fever. He got hog fever. Um, Um, uh, Ned is like Ned is swinging whiskey. He's like, you know, I brought this bottle just in case I was for a celebration, but I feel like it's gonna come in handy right now and keep us warm And will's like gonna do that anymore.
He's like it's raining And that's just fair to say it right. Yeah, I know he doesn't sip. No, he doesn't sip it. Okay.
No, no, uh, I look But I just love the uh, it's raining. What do you mean you're not drinking? Um Yeah, and they you know, they're like, uh, Yeah, whatever you don't look so good. You look you look like you look like death right now.
He's like just wait until later. Um That's right. I'm the Grim Reaper bitch. I'm a fucking this hyper.
Yeah, it's a weird line kind of sticks out Yeah, totally. Uh, does it sort of? Right. That doesn't make sense.
I bristle like that. Yeah, um, English Bob Uh takes a carriage out of town, right? He's like you guys suck. I'm out of here, right?
And that's you know, the women in the they're like nobody's gonna come right and then I like this They're like a storm's coming right or I said something or rain is coming right Which we just saw you know, will and Ned and scope hill in the rain and like oh, they're you know, fucking This is the thing I know this from like uh was a tombstone where there's a line where carousel has like you tell them I'm coming and hell's coming with me It's good. It's good line and it fucking in the moment too. It's very impactful But it feels like a similar thing here was like storms coming and it's just like cleanest with all the fucking thunder and lightning of Hell behind them, you know Um, but but not yet not yet Um, we get the scene where bow shop and and fucking little bill are in his house and everything is leaking Right. Yeah, it's good.
And and little bill is given you know, he's running down like the whole all his stories and shit He's like he is so into the idea of being like Written about and having books written about him and shit. He's so into it This is very this is the old west version of like Operator guys starting podcasts like you're at what's that guy's name? Jocko, you know about No, jocko. There's like a whole Culture of like former military guys who have podcasts now.
Oh, yeah Yeah, and they like likewise they all lie about what they did and call each other liars and yeah Yes, dude things have changed things that are getting better. Nothing changes my guy I I think I mean like that's part of this movie is like nothing changes like Yeah, even like cleanness what's character is like I'm you know, she changed me I'm trying to I'm a good man now. I try to be a good man, but it's so like He has to consciously do all these things right. Can you change?
Yes, but it's a constant forage to change right your nature like Will money's nature in this is to be the the hard-drinking murdering son of a bitch the actual rudeness to anist the actual rudeness to an Enest in the west right um So I don't know that's like you know, oh, can you change anything like technically you can change but it is Change who you are at your core you can lay not start and stop doing stuff. Yeah And even then maybe I can consciously be a pig farmer and whatever but Consciously be that's a mantra. Thank you. I'll consciously be a fucking big fire That on like a like a throw pillow or something.
Yeah, it's like a macrame sort of uh, yeah So uh they get into town and immediately a little bill is notified that like three guys just came in and they Uh, I don't know who they are and they seem armed right so all right little bills gotta take care of it Um, all three guys are at the brothel right scofield kid is upstairs with the ladies. Um, so so's a net Well, yeah, net does go up there. He's downstairs first. I was right.
It's like I better go check on him He'd met if I take a little time to myself and uh and he's like Will's just like Yeah, I think net is like I don't know if you want to join or anything like that and Will's just like no Is like I have a fever of 103 What song is that? Yeah, uh, I got a few Is it hot blooded? Yeah, it's foreign. Yeah, it's foreign I'm hot blooded He's acoustic cover of that playing over the credits Yeah, I'm hot blooded Uh god So Ned, Ned goes upstairs with the ladies Um, he's a married man.
My goodness. Um, how many how many trees does this guy need? He's a man collects trees. All right Doesn't make any sense at all.
All right, so yeah, they're they're both boinking and then uh, oh Yeah, Will is is like hunched over at his table like simply trying not to die. Yeah, he's like Medical system in this town isn't that And that's when little bill and his guys they come in and they're all again same thing with that happen with english bob That they fucking they surround him. Yeah, they got like 20 guys in there. Yeah, he's like Oh, uh, also will is saying to uh to net he's like I saw I saw this guy that I killed and he's like that guy's You know, he's dead.
He's like I know I saw him to his his head was open. I could see into it not good He says he's like He's like I think you're pretty sick with I think you're doing so hot right now. Um, so yeah, little bill kicks this shit out of him right there The no the no guns in big whiskey no guns in big wits town's called big whiskey and little bill Daggett's the grugruk skin. Am I right?
Am I right? So yeah, he's just like I guess you didn't see that sign on account all the rain Right and they got this like back and forth and eventually yeah bill kicks the shit out of will Yes, um on account. He has a fever of 103 top blooded right a bit of a foreigner in this town You know he is um and as this is happening Ned and the kid jump out a window Yeah, they're like, you know, they basically they say the woman like okay, we're gonna we'll do it We'll do the job. Um, you know, they're getting dressed or whatever We'll take off and they get outside and they're like what about will he's like don't work We'll get the horses.
We'll get them ready and then we'll take off right so yeah Will gets the absolute shit kicked out of him and he has he crawls out of the bar into the rain into the rain into the mud and shit And then gets on the horse and they take him to like a safe house, which is just like a little hut And uh scofeokid is like this some bit is gonna die and you know, what are we even doing here? And we should just go kill him and ourselves. I like the next day that there are two It's strawberry alice and uh silky, I think is the girl's name that are at the the hut and uh turns out Ned and uh and Scofeld have been taking advances on their money. Um, uh, as uh, but Delilah puts it.
She's like they've been giving them free ones free ones and uh So yeah, they um This one, uh, let's see is it is this one the first no? Scofeld hold on what's that? Uh, beans just sort of like popped in front of the camera a little bit. Yeah.
Yeah, what are you looking for? Um, Oh, no, there was the whole thing where yeah, Ned and uh, scofeld they're like not at the the campsite. I don't know where they are. Okay, but um, This is when like Will talks to Delilah The the one who's been all caught up and stuff and she's like, you know, uh, she's telling them about the free ones And then she's like uh, do you want a free one and he's like uh, no, no, no, no, and she's like oh, I didn't mean for me I know I'm just a kind of poor but I'm in from like alice or silky or something and uh, he's like no, I I reckon if I did want a free one, I would want it with you I just don't want a free one on account of my wife and and you know, it's like uh, my wife is at home Taking care of her children and she's looking over our little ones.
He says looking over. Yeah looking over our little ones and uh, And she's like I admire that you know A man being true to his wife in my line of work. I mean a lot of married men or whatever. Yeah, exactly Um, and uh from there, uh, will is now mostly healed up.
He's not sick anymore. He's his wounds. It's been a few days So they go out and they they find the guy davy And he's with like another crew of guys and and they shoot his horse and they rock his damn leg breaks his damn leg Oh, the terrible the three guys is at will and everybody they're up on a hill Shooting down on him and net has the rifle and net is like trying to uh, To line up a shot to take the next shot to kill davy and he fucking can't do it And uh, like he can't see uh, I guess he doesn't have the stuff anymore, right? So will is it was it a can't see or I thought it was like a I can't do it.
I mean it might be an I can't do it any Like I just can't bring myself to kill this man. Maybe. Um, that's what I thought but who knows? Um, I mean, I guess that would make more sense that he uh, you know, he is a different guy now Ned, right?
And Ned has changed and he's not not the same killer that he used to be even though he probably could do it. Um So then will takes the gun and he uh He's like it takes a couple shots and then shoots davy in the in the gut and davy crawls behind a rock And he's crying out this guy the scene goes on for a long time sort of like uh in austin powers when it's like i'm only parallel. Yeah Yeah, yeah, it's a bit like that. It's like oh crap.
I'm dying. But yeah all of this stuff is like Again, it feels like anti like western. It's it's the anti heroism of all the shit, right? Yeah, we're like in like does this guy davy deserve to be shot dead here, you know, and you're like well He did you know participate in you know attacking that woman whatever So that's bad and then you're these guys are sort of faced with like okay They shot davy davy is like crying now.
He's just like oh there's the and then he's like get him a damn drink of water I'm not gonna shoot you yeah, so they bring over a canteen and drink some of this stuff And he's just like we're just left there with this guy dying and you're like It's this air this thing that hangs over the whole movie of like does any of this mean anything right, you know, you know, yeah like There's something about you know, it's like he's Just the setting to of being like out in the fucking desert basically and yeah Um, there's nothing everywhere. Yes, it's such a lonely death and he's like crying out or whatever. Yeah all of it and um Uh, yeah, I don't think maybe uh I don't think i4 and i is like the best policy. Well, no, I mean, but I think that's I think that's so fun It's like so many I mean movies media whatever It's always this idea of like i4 and i like getting revenge like revenge stories are so popular right and You when you're watching a revenge movie a lot of the time it is satisfying to see like the guy get his revenge, right?
but then like What happens right two two weeks later? Yeah, wherever where you guys just an empty shell of himself, right? It's like your you your whole purpose for living is gone now And then this adds the remove of like these are just like hired guys So it's like totally the futility of revenge plus the remove of like, you know Doing it to someone you don't know and then also you're like an old man now and you're taking that away from So right you're like once again forced to reckon with the just like Chance of your life just like the chance in the right where but just like the randomness of like who lives and who dies Right these old men seeing this young man a bad young man Which they were and they lived long enough to be like people can change used to be a piece of shit Slick back hair white pants It's like six for fawnees right And now they are like meeting justice in such a way as to like deprive someone of the chance to make good Yes, you know now whether you think he deserves that or not That's for you the viewer to decide but that's what's happening in the picture. Yeah, so After this Ned is like all right.
I'm out of here. Like I'm I can't do it. I'm gonna be no good to you guys So I'm gonna go back home and they're like all right and Will tells me like I'll once I once we get the money whenever I'll get you your share So don't worry about that. You're still getting paid for this um And uh so they go on and then you know fucking little bill gets word that this guy Davey's been shot and killed So like all right well We have to round up a posse to track these guys down and then they track down Ned and and fucking Ned gets Ned gets whipped in the in the the sheriff's station there now this movie it doesn't I do like the fact that like Morgan Freeman obviously black man This movie doesn't hit on race like in the traditional sort of way like this scene where he's being whipped obviously there's uh, you know It's like loaded subtext to it's loaded.
Yeah, but it's you know, there's not like n-words flying around or anything like that It's it's a different kind of a thing. You know, it's like I do think it sort of like gets its message across by having Uh bill not whip the other two guys. Yeah, absolutely and then very sort of like gleefully whipping this guy. Yes.
Yes um So bill is whipping Ned and Ned he's you know, I'm trying to get information from Ned is mixing like he tells a couple lies he's mixing them up like the names first name last name on the shit and then bill says all right get get those women in that uh, you know these these two guys were with the night of the storm and uh You know when their lies don't match your lies then i'm really gonna hurt you right this way says And he that's where we leave it with them. Yeah um So that that's when uh, that's when the kid and will Yeah, go out to uh so the next day they go out to go to the ranch to finish the job Yes quick mike right they're staking him out and they're like that quick mike He loves to go diarrhea in the outhouse. So we just got a way to mount The next time he goes for one of his famous diarrhea's we will ambush him And the kids like he's like can I shoot him and well it's like sure you're fucking weirdo Go ahead. Go ahead make your day.
He says yeah, sort of uh he doesn't say that um, but that's what happens right after a long Sort of like a long way. Yeah, a long way the kid goes to the outhouse and there are two two outhouse stalls next to each other Two stalls side by side and he opens just quick mike He's like being guarded by like five other guys inside and there's this whole thing He's like all right. I gotta take shit and and they're like you want us to like go with you regard it He's like what are you gonna wipe my ass to and all this shit right? And yes, and that's where he goes out to the outhouse.
I know they have the means to white ass Oh, they got me stuff. They just like spread them wide Um So yeah, the kid goes to you know take him out opens the wrong outhouse door And at the same time one of the guys is like going outside for whatever. Yeah Yeah, he does yell as as which is cool Um, and the kid opens the other one and again we get this sort of like It's not like something like fist full of dollars where like a guy gets shot He just goes and he falls over and he's instantly dead and at worst There's a little bit of bright red paint on him. Sure.
This is like he opens the door and the guys like no no no no no Right making for his life as he's like sitting there, you know taking a shit. Yeah, no pants on whatever Um, it's in the most vulnerable position. How was it? No, they'd all And uh Just jacking off to a vintage porno mad He uh, I mean in this movie would be porno mag of the future Yeah, um, but if I if I ever find if I ever have access to a time machine, I think that's what i'll do I'll bring some porno mags back in time and distribute them to the old west cowboys people throwing up Everything like it never seen tits this big It would be like in uh 28 years later where they see like the love island girl and the kids like what's that what's wrong with that The love island girl.
Yeah, they're like looking at some like sexy lady or whatever. She's all like plastic surgery. Yes. Yes Um, and yeah, so the kid puts a couple rounds in this guy He just like squeezes off everything in his six-shooter because he's so freaked out.
Yes, and then uh, they have to like They have to like retreat. Yeah Um, so they meet up with um one of the girls from the saloon. Yeah, the scene under the tree. They see this.
Oh, right of course Yeah, but like yeah, the scofield kid is like sitting there. He's drinking like he's got the bottle of whiskey there And he's like pulling from him whenever and I mean the shot Looks so good and like eastwood standing there, you know, he's like this fucking skinny straw scarecrow of a man You know, but like he looks in arms and they throw over there Um, I kind of feel like he's doing the same He's standing in the same position the same way that like he looks in the infestive dollar Or like for a few dollars more. He's doing this like thing where he's like like One side of his body seems like straight if that makes sense and he's got like one leg Sort of like his other legs are kicked out a little bit to the side. Yeah, and he's just like he's cutting a striking figure That's yes exactly.
That's what he's doing. That's what he's doing. He looks fucking great. He looks like fucking stud at 60 Whatever years old he is here.
Yeah, he's like, I gotta go fuck somebody right now Uh, I'm a I've got a hug fever Um, no, but so he uh Which is like I mean, it's an interesting way to sort of like pose these two guys right where he's sort of physically embodying the sort of like idea Uh that the kid had of who this guy was yeah I mean like it also comes out right here Yeah, if the kid and like kid having the breakdown here and he's just like that was the first one I've ever killed And he's like yeah, he's like, uh, I don't think I liked it Yeah, it doesn't seem you ever kill anyone No, I mean either. It doesn't seem like a good mag. No, it's not something I really want to do Um, but I will but listen a hard rainfall Listen a real rain is gonna come one day on Real rain is coming to wash away all the scum and the film nevermind So they uh, yeah and and scofield here. He's just like, uh, you know, I I didn't know it was anything It was gonna be like that And and will is just like yeah, it's it's not yeah, it's basically it's not what you think it is and whatever So anyone told you life was gonna be this way Uh, and this is when the the girl rides up and she's like You know, he tells her like all right, you know, it's done the job is done Um, does she give him the I think she gives him the money here?
Yeah, she does Right and uh, and uh, they're like, yeah, and then uh, this you know, this this portion is gonna go to Ned And she's like, oh, Ned, he's dead. Ned's dead, baby Yeah, and he's like, no, he's not he went south Shut up. That's my friend. That's my friend you're talking about and she's like no they Uh, little bill and his guys they caught up with him and they uh, you know, they they whipped him until uh, he told He told them like who you were And they said that you were will money from Missouri and men who killed uh women and children and all the stuff and he's like And he had and this and and this is the moment where he's like little bill killed my friend And he knows that they're gonna be coming for him and Scofield for sure And he's just like all right.
He's like now fucking turn me back to the old me and he takes the whiskey bottle Yeah, he takes the whiskey bottle from Scofield and he takes a big fucking swig off it Which the entire movie up until this point is like I don't do that anymore. I don't drink I don't womanize. I don't corrals. I don't kill people.
I don't do any of it. I'm that's like Yeah, I'm a Ned Flanders. I did like it right now And now he's like give me that fucking whiskey bottle And you're and in this moment like watching this you're like oh shit here like This is you know, this is the moment like this is when we are like music's gonna kick in and he's yeah It's kind of like this is gonna be like the hero moment essentially right where he's like all right I gotta fucking I gotta do some do my dirt here and uh And we you know we meet up with little bill and all this guys they're in the fucking saloon And they're like and he's all like fucking cocky about it like he's been the whole movie But he's just like all right everybody drink up. We're gonna party tonight and then tomorrow.
We're heading down We're gonna catch these guys. We're gonna fucking hang on. It's gonna be great out of it. Yeah, it's gonna be great You're gonna love it.
We're gonna have a great time save some money because I don't know how long we're gonna be on the road We might stop into some other towns or many other ladies. We're gonna have a good time. All right, it's gonna be great You're gonna love it and fucking Eastwood it just walks in will is just standing there in the doorway with his with his fucking rifle And everybody's like They just stop some people see him And he's just the the fucking most evil looking man on it It's like it's a room full of guys with guns and they're all pissing their pants It feels like he did like a costume change the way he he's like is he in all black? I don't know, but it feels like he's in all black Maybe it's just the lighting it's all in the light in here is so fucking good He's wearing his hat so like the shadow that's cast on his face Like you can't you can't see really above his nose like his eyes are just in black.
Yes and like and there's like a redness to the proceedings. Yes and uh, and he uh Will will asks he's like who who owns this place and and uh was a skinny He uh, he says sorry. He's like I own this place and will like draws his gun on him. He's like That's a guy Well, no, he tells he tells a guy beyond he's like you might want to get out of the way And then he fucking blows the guy away and and everybody's oh shit And little bell is like you just killed an unarmed man and then he fucking will you know puts the gun on little bill And they're like it's this moment where like little bill is like he's still in little bills mind He's like the hero here right?
He's these guys are bad guys and and I have a badge. Yeah, I have a badge on the law Uh, they they killed two people. I have we have to go get them that justice has to be served and all this shit and even in this moment, he's like he's still being like You know trying to be like a big man and he's like he's only got one round left in that chamber and when he fires that Everybody fucking shoot him and whatever, right? and there's this kind of long long pause there and uh and then fuck it's Is it um, uh, what's the thing that goes first little bill like moves forward first and then you know We'll just shoot some in the gut, right?
And then every all hell kind of bracelet So then he this is something that like little bill talks to uh, bo-champ about earlier when he's you know sort of self-methallegizing He says like you know when you're drawing your gun, right? Uh, if you draw too fast or whatever you're gonna miss your first shot And that's usually what happens you want to be like kind of slower And then you can like you have a steady your hand and your aim is is better and all this shit And that's what happens in this scene is all of these guys draw as fast as humanly possible And it seems like will He's like too old he can't even fucking draw that fast So he like pulls pulls his gun and he just starts like Kind of slowly aiming and firing at these guys and kills like five guys in the room that all like shoot at him Sheets that one guy in the back fucking as he's like running away And he's like anybody who doesn't want to get killed better leave out the back, right? So everybody all these guys are just like file out. Yeah And then bo-champ Is like uh, he's so into all of this.
He's like I can't believe i'm in a real saloon That just got shot up. I'm gonna write this story down. He's like talking he's trying to talk like straight here with him Yeah, he's like who are your guys? The last 20 minutes of bo-champ's podcast are him you just hear him shooting, but it sounds like shit somehow so He's like he's like he's like uh, he's like, uh, you know in a You know a little bill was telling me that like in a in a when you're outmatched outgun by a bunch of guys here But the numbers aren't are stacked against you.
Uh, you want to shoot the guy the best gunman first, right? And he's like Will's just like, you know, I wasn't really thinking about it I've always just been lucky that way. I've always been lucky with killing And he's like and it was like who did you shoot next? He's like, I don't know I only know who I shot last.
I think like kind of points that got into him and bo-champ is like, all right, all right I'll leave I'll leave Um So uh, he's left there and then uh, little bill he takes another swig of whiskey And little bill is on the ground and he's got his gun and he's dying on the ground but he's gonna try and shoot him and You know, will will see something stops him and he points his rifle right at his head and Little but I love this like little bill is just like I didn't deserve this I was buying a house or I was building a house. I was buying a house on the property Um, I was building a house and share a little bill property. That's just good He's just like Will is just like deserves got nothing to do with it, right? He's right and he's right and then just fucking sh- Ices him right there on the bar room floor Yeah, I mean the sort of like the thing you're left with too a little bit is like Will will money's reputation is just because he's still alive like all these guys It's just because they're still alive To his then right like no one's gonna be like telling the story of a frickin skinny the bar I'm trying to remember quick.
What's his name quick? Robbie if I'm like, oh, yeah Quick, no one's like telling the story of like, oh, he was pretty he's a badass until he uh Lost yeah until he lost until he was taking your shit that one time Yeah, well, he yells out the door and he's like off I'll fucking kill anybody that shoots at me if you shoot at me I'll kill you'll kill your wife. I'll kill your friends. I'll burn your whole town down.
No, I should right Nobody shoots at him. Yeah, I think he might do that. Yeah, I think he might be the devil Um, there's this movie high planes drifter, uh, it's really good, but it's basically like um He he would like rise into town, right and he I forget exactly what it is If it's him exactly or if it's somebody that looks like him, but somebody they killed somebody Uh that looked like him before he you know I don't know if it's a year or so before that and it turned this guy is like the avenging Uh demon to take take revenge on like the whole town and he just puts everybody in town through the absolute fucking ringer And he ends up painting the entire town red because he's a devil and it's hell now. It's it's a hell town.
Um, it's pretty cool Um, but yeah, he used to what he gets on his horse and he fucking rides out And then we get like a little fucking uh, you know kyron rolling on it's like some years later. Uh, mrs feathers made the uh, uh, audacious journey to hodgman county to visit the last resting place of roely daughter Like will money's wife like this last bit is just like and then will money he uh took the kids move to i think san francisco San francisco, yeah sold dry goods and and just like became a I can't get hog fever. That's right Dry goods fever isn't anything and all right, I guess separate that can from the others. I don't know how they help us I don't know.
Oh that paw those can mushrooms have botulism. Oh christ. Yeah Guy can't get a break There was nothing on the marker to explain to mrs. feathers.
Why her only daughter had married a known thief and murderer and a man notoriously vicious and uh, intempered with uh an intempered disposition um, intempered disposition, uh, it's and that's how it ends. It says you know fucking written and directed by cleansewood and It's fucking good man. Yeah, it's it's nasty business. It's nasty business.
It's uh Yeah, really just all about how um life ain't fair deserve don't got nothing to do with it. Um, you're just sort of like Lucky, I guess if you survive and often in order to survive you have to do unspeakable horrible things Yes, uh, you you have to trade in your humanity for extended time on this earth. Yeah, um, so I I think I this is I think this is a good place to start it's almost like starting at the end of uh of a kind of western but it's the beginning of like a new kind of uh western like this deconstruction of westerns in general. Yeah, that that takes place and like it feels like every a lot of movies after this Take this position of like what if everyone is wrong and there are no, you know good guys are bad guys and it's all So gray and whatever so true.
Um Yeah, and then like this is like a deep meditation and then next week next Tuesday. We're doing tombstone Which is more of a sort of fun? I would say uh sort of western but still in like a in a modern like a modern take on a Like a fun western kind of thing. It's it's much more of a popcorn movie than this is, you know The cast is very the cast suggests that yeah, all right valcon curt rustle bill paxton Sam leon of sorts You know, yeah, he's like a clown of a cowboy Yeah, yeah, so funny that he convinced himself.
He's a real cowboy by playing. Yes many of them Yes, it's like the dumbest version of austin pauler turning into all this it is At least he was just like, yeah, I can't stop talking like a baby. Yeah. Yeah, I'm like, I am elvis I I was actually a cowboy.
I and how much of that is him just getting older and being like, who am I? Yeah, right. Just like oh god. Oh god.
Yes. I don't know which yeah Who I don't recognize the partner in the mirror no more It's from sacraman. Oh, jesus christ. Yeah, he's full of shit.
Oh my god Anyway, uh, let's go to letterbox.com Slash king v pod that's right letterbox.com slash king v pod where we tell you we score the movie and give you We tell you what we think of it and then you find out why later when the episode comes out. That's right. I'm forgiven 1992 Four or five or what do you think I gave it five stars? I think it's what we're playing rules I gave it I gave it four but I gave it four and a half.
I want to give it five You want to give it five in a lake. Yeah, it's just a I think tight it's tight. It's tight. Let's tiger this It's I know for you like I don't know like you haven't seen ton of westerns or whatever so like this Almost is like in a like a fucking scanner box or something where it's just like this separate thing That doesn't it's all of this context for all of this my sensors are calibrating.
Yeah, so yeah In a sense. I like you know, I'm sure by the end of this I'd be like five stars. No question Yeah, we're gonna watch a bunch of westerns over the next month or so and get into like, you know What they all what we're getting out of here? What what they all mean and how this I mean how unforgiving all these movies They play on like tropes and subvert expectations of the genre etc.
Yeah, so and to review it I say one star Uh for each guy the scofield kid lied about killing The heart like a like less than three heart. Yes. Okay published and now they know now they know all right so friday We're going right. We're going to we delete Uh, we we go to it.
I'm gonna I'm gonna shoot you off your horse. Uh, I'm gonna I'm gonna You know bit so rich. Hey, I got an idea. I'm the rudeness of doneness I got an idea why don't we uh, why don't we get a microphone?
We can just record the audio here No, we're gonna do it over. We're gonna do it all later in the sound the booth I don't know why you crazy. I'm not gonna report on all the other stuff The thing that will drive me insane for for my entire life is the fact that Italians insist on dubbing over Move this or dead for a long time. I don't know if they still do.
Yeah, so all right. It's friday. It's fistful. Yeah, I'm gonna say if you haven't guess We're talking about life is beautiful that we're burning It's a fist full of dollars Sergio Sergio leoni the first team up Right of Sergio and Clint.
Yes and the first in the man with no name trilogy. It is a trilogy Yeah, cool. It's fist full of dollars for a few dollars more and then the good the bad and the ugly damn I think i'm gonna watch the other two of these by the way All right, listen, they're good. Yeah, it's not to not to spoil where i'm at on fist full of dollars But I want to know what else this freak gets up to Absolutely Freak.
I want to see if they if they say his name That alone Uh, yeah, maybe they say his name a lot to talk about with this one of course, you know, comparing and contrasting with i'm forgiven comparing and contrasting with omega doom Omega doom the Scottish village which appears once every hundred years. Yes And maybe we'll talk about Akira Kurosawa rob. Oh, I don't know why that would come up, but sure Um, and the next Tuesday we're talking tombstone Uh That's gonna be a that'll be a fun one. Oh, you've never seen tombstone.
I've seen some of tombstone I've never watched it straight there. That's a real like is playing on TNT kind of movie playing on TNT all the time. Yeah, even as we speak Um Velkylma will steal every single scene he's in just so that's classic classic kill classic him Him going I wanna see him in Paxton go in toe to toe next week if you want to hear me do Uh bad valkylma as doc holiday impressions to an if you liked bad clean eastwood If you like my bad clean eastwood impression, I want you to tune in next week when I stopped talking like I saw them. Oh, this is gonna suck Uh, we're gonna be unlistable between the two of us.
You can we do that anyway. We do that boys. Oh my god. All right.
Here we go That's it. So that's it. Um, uh, oh, we don't have a we don't have a sign off for our western series here Is there uh, what's like um That's like a thing that cowboy say that's like a bye Um, happy trails happy trails Happy trails
