United National Transport Union shocked that Railway Safety Regulator decision on PRASA permit is challenged in court

SAfm — The United National Transport Union (UNTU) says it is shocked that the Railway Safety Regulator's decision to revoke the safety permit of the Passenger Rail Agency PRASA is being challenged in court. The matter was brought by PRASA and will be heared in the high court in Pretoria on Thursday. The court had to provide temporary relief to PRASA after the regulator refused to issue a safety permit last week following an accident in Kempton Park on Friday. The regulator's decision would have affected 2 million train commuters. This is the second time since August this year, that the regulator has threatened not to issue PRASA with a permit due to serious safety concerns.
