University of South Carolina Assistant Director of Sports Performance

Alex Buchman enters his second year (7 years overall) as Assistant Director of Sports Performance, primarily working with the women’s soccer, men’s and women’s tennis programs. Buchman oversees the weight training facility in the Carolina Soccer Center and designs year-round strength and conditioning programs for each team he works with. In addition, Buchman manages the Firstbeat Sports technology system to monitor individual and team training loads based on heart rate variability (HRV).  Before taking on the role as a full-time strength and conditioning coach, Buchman was a volunteer and graduate assistant coach with the Gamecocks. He was invited to serve as a sports scientist for several of the US Soccer youth national teams. Buchman is a native of Lexington, SC and attended Lexington high school and earned a Bachelor of Science in Exercise and Sport Science with a Business minor at the University of South Carolina Aiken and Masters degree in Sport Management from Liberty University.
