Unlikely law enforcement agencies assisting feds with immigration

Despite California’s refusal to help federal agencies crack down on illegal immigration, an investigation has discovered that many law enforcement agencies in the state are getting money from the Department of Homeland Security to assist with border patrol operations, including the UC San Diego Police Department. According to CalMatters, a nonpartisan and nonprofit news organization, the university police helps monitor the coastline for smuggling activity. Phoebe Huss, a student reporter who works for CalMatters, uncovered how many police agencies throughout California are part of Operation Stonegarden, which provides agencies with funding to help fight illegal immigration. Border Report Live spoke with Huss about her investigation and about how these agencies may be violating California’s 2017 Sanctuary Laws by working with the Border Patrol and U.S. Customs and Border Protection.
