Unlocking Creativity, The Power of Art for Child Development - Tracy Cheney

from Epic Vision Zone with Jane Applegath · host Jane Applegath

Albert Einstein wrote, “Creativity is seeing what others see and thinking what no one else ever thought.” Tracy Cheney is a woman of many talents. A speaker, author, award-winning radio producer, art teacher, artist, and entrepreneur, she energizes others with the power of creative thought. Tracy says creativity is expressed in endless ways, is vital to our children’s development and being open to new ideas and perspectives is vital to our economy. With our changing world, Tracy believes the creative process needs to be taught like other thinking processes. Having spent 30 years teaching children PK-8th grade, she has seen them develop in a system that hinders many of their inherent gifts; the consequences are that many never discover their talents. Tracy asks, “How does scribbling get your child into Harvard? In an age of ever-present screens, she says parents need to ensure their little ones are coloring to get ready for kindergarten. She believes the right “academics” and “homework” for the preschool crowd is early drawing that leads to reading and writing success. The simple way to design education as a method of success rather than one of frustration is to view it as an organic system that continuously evolves and changes, rather than one of conformity that remains immobile. static. www.tracycheney.com facebook.com/workshopsformoms
