Simopoulos, M.D. is the Founder and President of the Center for Genetics, Nutrition and Health, a nonprofit educational organization in Washington, D.C., has since 1990. A graduate of Barnard College, Columbia University, with a major in Chemistry, and a graduate of the Boston University School of Medicine; she is a physician and endocrinologist whose research at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) was on the nutritional aspects of genetic and endocrine disorders; evolutionary aspects of diet and fatty acids, and the importance of a balanced ratio of omega-6/omega-3 fatty acids in Health and disease and in growth and development. Dr. Simopoulos is a world authority on essential fatty acids and was a nutritional adviser to the Office of Consumer Affairs at the White House. Dr. Simopoulos chaired the Nutrition Coordinating Committee at the National Institutes of Health from 1978 to 1986. They were a member of several White House delegations to the World Health Organization and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations from 1978 to 1981. She is the author of The Healthiest Diet for You: Scientific Aspects (her latest book), The Omega Diet; The Healing Diet and has completed a Chapter for the Encyclopedia of UNESCO on “Omega-3, Omega-6, Omega-9 Fatty Acids: Sources, Metabolism and Supplements.” She is currently a Consulting Editor for Lifestyle Genomics.
