Unrest in Sudan

from African Dialogue · host Channel Africa

In the latest escalation by protesters demanding an end to military rule, a civil disobedience campaign in Sudan has brought the country's capital to a standstill, closing down restaurants, banks and other businesses and turning streets desolate. The mass showing of government defiance follows a military crackdown that has reportedly left more than 100 killed by security forces in Khartoum over the past week. Government forces also cut off mobile data, which most Sudanese use to access the Internet, posing major difficulties in getting basic information out of Sudan. Furthermore Sudanese security forces have arrested two opposition leaders shortly after they met with Ethiopia's Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed during reconciliation talks in Sudan's capital, Khartoum. On the line we are joined by: * Sabir Ebrahim, Respresentative of Sudan Liberation Movement in South Africa.* Mossaad Mohamed Ali, Executive Director at the African Centre for Justice and Peace Studies Jok Moduk Jok Director from from Suud Institute.
