Wright sits down with bestselling author and speaker Carol Kent for a powerful conversation about faith, heartbreak, surrender, and finding hope when circumstances seem impossible.Carol shares the deeply personal story of her son, Jason, a U.S. Naval Academy graduate whose life changed forever after he was convicted of first-degree murder and sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole. For Carol and her husband, Gene, the journey brought overwhelming grief, unanswered questions, and a new reality they never could have imagined. Yet in the middle of that brokenness, they discovered an enduring truth: when God seems absent, He is still present.Carol explains how her family learned to surrender what they could not control, choose life rather than emotional defeat, and allow their pain to become a platform for sharing the hope of Jesus Christ. She also shares how Jason has used his years in prison to minister to other inmates, encourage men in their faith, mentor those around him, and point others toward Christ. The conversation explores themes from Carol’s books When I Lay My Isaac Down and A New Kind of Normal, including what it means to trust God when life does not have a neat or tidy ending.IN THIS EPISODECarol Kent’s journey through an unimaginable family crisisLearning to recognize God’s presence in seasons of sufferingSurrendering what we cannot controlChoosing life, gratitude, and purpose in difficult circumstancesWhy vulnerability can open doors for ministryThe importance of simply weeping with those who are hurtingHow God can redeem suffering without minimizing its consequencesJason Kent’s ministry and influence among fellow inmatesPrison ministry and caring for incarcerated people and their familiesFinding purpose when your prayers have not yet been answeredBelieving that God is still at work among the ruinsCarol’s testimony reminds us that our circumstances do not have the final word.
