The family consisted of Josiah B. Moore, his wife Sarah, and their four children: Herman (11), Katherine (10), Boyd (7), and Paul (5). They were a well-respected family within the community with no enemies.  Victim Lena Stillinger (age 12): Lena was a family friend who was staying overnight with the Moore family on the night of the murders.  Ina Stillinger (age 8): Ina was Lena’s sister and also staying overnight with the Moore children.The discovery of their brutal murders shocked the tight-knit community of Villisca and left an enduring impact on American history due to the case remaining UNSOLVED. The crime scene investigation and subsequent trials were marred by controversy and mishandling of evidence, contributing to the difficulty of solving the case.Tragically, on that fateful night, an unknown assailant entered their home while they were sleeping and bludgeoned all eight occupants to death using an axe.
