Unstabbed Caesar

If Julius Caesar had survived the assassination attempt in 44 BCE, Rome would likely move more quickly toward centralized imperial rule. Caesar could use the failed plot as justification to weaken the Senate, punish rivals, expand reforms, and design a monarchy disguised as a republic. If he successfully trained Octavian as a successor, Rome might achieve an earlier and more stable Pax Romana.
