Who gets what when you split? Are you even in a relationship that the law cares about? You might be surprised. Relationships and how they are defined by the law can get complicated and untangling these complications may end up defining your life. In our fourth Episode of Rule of Thumb it’s impossible to not consider your own situation, relationships and what you ‘contribute’ to the household. We start to think about how societal norms effect who owns what, who earns what, who does what around the house and what that might mean for your ongoing wealth... and health. As we hear stories of women who remain ‘tangled‘ with men they are separated from, we start to think about how the legal process influences the decisions women make during proceedings, just so they can get ‘untangled’.

NOTE: This podcast discusses family violence which may be triggering for some listeners. It also contains legal information which is not intended as legal advice.

Oliver Cromwell and the Rule of the Puritans in England by Charles H. Firth (1857 - 1936) LibriVox The Life of Cromwell is in part based on an article contributed by the author to the Dictionary of National Biography in 1888, but embodies the result of later researches, and of recently discovered documents such as the Clarke Papers. The battle plans have been specially drawn for this volume by Mr. B. V. Darbishire, and in two cases differ considerably from those generally accepted as correct. The scheme of this series does not permit a discussion of the reasons why these alterations have been made, but the evidence concerning the battles in question has been carefully examined, and any divergence from received accounts is intentional. The reader who wishes to see this subject discussed at length is referred to a study of the battle of Marston Moor printed in Volume XII. of the Transactions of the Royal Historical Society (new series), and to a similar paper on Dunbar which will appear in Volume XIV.The quotations from Cromwell’s letters or speeches are, where necessary, Stories of Courage! Catherine Parr, last wife of Henry VIII, contributes her "Prayers or Meditations", intended as a shortened Protestant equivalent to Thomas à Kempis' The Imitation of Christ. Next come accounts of trials and martyrdoms: Walter Mill, the last martyr of Scotland, John Bradford, an anonymous account of Protestants in Norfolk and Suffolk to commissioners sent by Mary I, Hugh Latimer's examination as an old man and the execution of Henry Grey, father of Lady Jane Grey. Following these are a series of prayers: Lady Jane Grey, John Knox, Edward VI as well as Knox's instructions on prayer. Knox also gives instructions for Christian gatherings in a time of persecution and John Wycliffe gives a rule of conduct for Christians in various life circumstances.
