Unworthy...But Worthwhile

from Journey Church Gillette

What does it really mean to love your neighbor as yourself? That small phrase tucked inside one of the most well-known commands in all of Scripture turns out to carry enormous weight. Before we can genuinely love the people around us, we have to wrestle with a deeply personal question: how do we actually see ourselves? This message digs into the tension between two truths that Scripture holds together without apology. We are unworthy of God's grace, unable to earn it, unable to demand it, and fully deserving of the consequences of our sin. And yet, at the very same time, we are worthwhile to God, loved by him, sought by him, and redeemed at an extraordinary cost. The danger is that we collapse these two truths into one distorted belief, that being unworthy means being worthless. That distortion quietly drives anxiety, depression, self-loathing, and broken relationships. When we understand the difference between unworthiness and worthlessness, something shifts. We stop looking to other people to tell us whether we matter. We stop competing, manipulating, and performing. And we find ourselves genuinely free to extend to others the same care, patience, and dignity we have received from God.
