Up A Creek! RRR Show No. 1204 August 13, 2023

from Rapidly Rotating Records · host Glenn Robison

Jane Pickens Welcome to Glenn Robison’s Rapidly Rotating Records, bringing you vintage music to which you can’t *not* tap your toes, from rapidly rotating 78 RPM records of the 1920s and ’30s. Do you recognize this lovely lady? She’s Jane Pickens, of The Pickens Sisters. You’ve heard her lots of times on the show with her sisters, but on this evening’s show, she gets a birthday salute all to herself. Hers is just one of the three birthdays we’re celebrating on this week’s show, the others being accordionist Cornell Smelser and composer Hans Flath. We’ll also have a set of random rapidly rotating records, having nothing to do with each other. And while you’re listening to the original broadcast of this show on KISL, I’m in historic Sutter Creek in California’s Gold Country. You’ll find out why in the first segment. There’s lots of great music and interesting information so set aside an hour with your favorite beverage and prepare to be transported back to a different–and we think better–musical era.
