Up, Away, yet Near
from Hope-Full Living · host Timothy Puls
As Lutherans, we understand that the Ascension of Jesus does not make him more distant from us, but rather ever closer. Since Jesus Christ ascended with his flesh and body into heaven, you are promised that your old, sinful, and wretched body will rise someday to be like his at the resurrection of the dead (1 Corinthians 15). Since Jesus “fills all things” (Ephesians 4:10) he is present everywhere in both his divine nature and human nature. In the Lord’s Supper Jesus says, “This is my body, this is my blood.” This means he is with you always, strengthening you in both body and soul forever.
