In der Nacht von Sonntag auf Montag haben heftige Regenfälle für Überschwemmungen im Nordosten Libyens gesorgt. Weiterhin gelten 10.000 Menschen als vermisst und die Situation vor Ort bleibt unübersichtlich. Bereits vor der Flutkatastrophe war die Lage im Land instabil, denn zwei verfeindete Regierungen kämpfen seit Jahren um die Macht im Land. Über die aktuelle Situation und darüber, wie in einem Staat ohne eine stabile Regierung geholfen werden kann, berichtet Christof Johnen, Leiter der Abteilung für internationale Zusammenarbeit beim Deutschen Roten Kreuz. EU-Kommissionspräsidentin Ursula von der Leyen (CDU) hat am Mittwoch vor dem Europäischen Parlament in Straßburg ihre vorerst letzte Rede vor den Europawahlen 2024 gehalten. In der jährlichen Rede zur "Lage der Union" geht es um die Erfolge und Zukunftspläne der EU-Kommission. Mit den Europawahlen im kommenden Jahr endet auch die Amtsperiode der EU-Kommissionspräsidentin. Ob sie eine zweite Amtszeit anstrebt, hat von der Leyen bisher nicht bestätigt.
