Upperberry | Cravo

Originally recorded live for Arte Pela Palestina in Lisbon, this mix was conceived more as a sonic collage rather than a conventional DJ set. I chose to move across ambient music, folk traditions, film scores, downtempo… in order to bring together different musical languages through texture, rhythm and memory, in accordance with the high level of complexity of the situation there. Particular attention is given to timbres, melodic forms and musical gestures that evoke the Eastern Mediterranean and the Arab world, not as fixed identities, but as living sonic traces that have travelled across cultures, histories and geographies. I suppose it’s about music being a space where collective memory survives displacement. Itried to embrace grief, resilience, tenderness and hope without attempting to illustrate them directly. I defend listening as an act of attention, searching for the persistence of cultural expressions, emotional landscapes that music can preserve when words become insufficient.
