Urban planning for mega events: impacts of the Olympics with Abdallah Jreij

from Urbinary · host POLI.RADIO

In this episode, we explore the process of infrastructural planning for mega events as well as their aftermaths. Joining us is PhD candidate at Politecnico di Milano, Abdallah Jreij who is researching the environmental impact and sustainability of projects and infrastructure constructed for mega-events such as Expos and Olympic Games. From Abdallah’s research, we discuss the most important aspects of such planning processes using the 2026 Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics as a point of reference. We’ll also look into the Olympics from years past in finding out examples of proper planning that goes beyond the duration and events, and what to avoid.
