Nearshoring is already happening: Companies are moving factories from China to Mexico—automotive, electronics, semiconductors—because of proximity, USMCA rules, and lower costs than the US. 3. Optimistic starting point: Both Trump and Mexican leadership (Sheinbaum) have incentives to cooperate—Trump wants manufacturing back in North America, Mexico wants investment and jobs. 4. A workable reset is possible: Focus on shared wins instead of zero-sum fights—turn the border from a crisis into an economic engine.**2. WHAT A WIN-WIN DEAL COULD LOOK LIKE** 1. Expanded USMCA 2.0: Renegotiate rules of origin to favor North American production—higher content requirements that force more investment in both countries, not just China bypasses. 3. Energy corridor boom: Joint US-Mexico-Canada energy grid—Mexico gets US LNG and clean tech investment, US gets reliable supply and cheaper power for manufacturing resurgence. 4. Labor and migration pact: Legal pathways for Mexican workers in US shortage sectors (construction, agriculture, caregiving)—guest worker programs with strong return incentives, reducing illegal crossings and filling jobs Americans won’t take. 5. Tech and manufacturing zones: Binational “innovation corridors” along the border—US provides capital/tax incentives, Mexico provides land/labor—creating millions of high-value jobs on both sides.**3. THE ECONOMIC BOOM FOR BOTH SIDES** 1. For the US: Brings back millions of manufacturing jobs, reduces reliance on China, lowers inflation through shorter supply chains, boosts GDP growth 1–2% annually from nearshoring wave. 2. For Mexico: Attracts $100B+ in FDI yearly, creates 2–3 million formal jobs, lifts wages, modernizes infrastructure—turns northern states into high-tech hubs instead of maquiladoras. 3. Shared wins: Stronger North American bloc competes with China/EU—combined GDP >$30 trillion, energy independence, resilient supply chains, reduced illegal migration pressure. 4. What if scenario: Full cooperation delivers a “North American Century”—US regains industrial might, Mexico becomes upper-middle-income powerhouse, Canada ties it together—outcompeting Asia on cost + proximity.**4. HOW TO MAKE IT HAPPEN – THE OPTIMISTIC PATH** 1. Trump offers tariff relief tied to concrete Mexican commitments: Enforcement, legal migration quotas, energy exports, anti-cartel cooperation. 2. Mexico reciprocates with investment incentives, rule-of-law reforms, and joint anti-fentanyl ops—building trust through results, not rhetoric. 3. Bipartisan buy-in: Democrats get humane migration paths; Republicans get security and jobs—win-win framing sells it in Congress. 4. Private sector role: US/Mexican companies lobby hard—Ford, GM, Tesla already expanding in Mexico; add semiconductors, batteries, AI data centers. 5.
