A new short oral treatment for most lethal forms of drug-resistant Tuberculosis including Extensively Drug-Resistant TB or XDR-TB has been launched in South Africa to assist patients with the condition while also helping to stop transmission. The six-month all-oral regimen is funded by the United States Agency for International Development, USAID, through a Clinical Access Program by USAID partner, the Clinical HIV Research Unit, at the country's Wits Health Consortium in Johannesburg.
