USC WINS 42-26: So Why Are Trojan Fans Melting Down?!

USC'S win spark questions despite a 42-26 win over San Jose State, as fans react to a hot, humid noon kickoff and a dramatic second-half lapse. Quarterback Jayden Maiava shines with a record 86% completion rate, while freshman wideout Trent Mosley dazzles with 118 yards and a touchdown—becoming the first Power 4 freshman since Rondale Moore (2018) to post such debut numbers. Yet after jumping to a 35-3 lead, the Trojans’ defense allows 23 unanswered points, raising doubts about their finishing ability and defensive depth.  Marc Kulkin breaks down Lincoln Riley’s conservative play-calling, the offensive line’s physicality, and standout performances from Mosley, Kaden Dixon-Wyatt, and running backs King Miller and Waymond Jordan. Key topics include the Trojans’ tackling improvements, defensive concerns in the secondary, and what the energy (or lack thereof) in the Coliseum crowds means moving forward.
