Amid the Coronavirus pandemic, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service cancelled the annual Waterfowl Breeding Population and Habitat Survey for the first time in 55 years. Ducks Unlimited Scientist Dr. Mike Brasher gives is his take on what the lost year of date means for waterfowl hunters. Also we take a look at two of my favorite species (pintails and gadwalls) and why they’re trending in opposite directions. For so long there’s been opinion after opinion as to why the pintail has struggled but waterfowl scientists recently have accepted the actual reason. Dr. Brasher explains during our discussion. (Unlike the pintail, the gadwall is trending upwards and makes up big portion of southern duck hunter’s bags. Belle with a beautiful drake we took in North Texas) Next, our friend Jeff Barry of Kent Cartridge makes his return to the show. We discuss the deadly TK7 Penetrator tungsten turkey load (which you can see I patterned here). Also, what does the global economic situation mean for ammunition manufacturers? Is there a silver lining with the COVID 19 situation when it comes to hunter recruitment? Lastly, Jeff and I revisit Fasteel 2.0 and give our thoughts on destination waterfowl trips every duck hunter should make.
