Using Data and Omics to predict Dementia Risk & Progression
from Dementia Research Charity Chatathon
Recorded at the Dementia Research Charity #Chatathon 2022 - Adam Smith interviews Dr Cristina Legido-Quigley, Head of Systems Medicine, at King's College London, Dr Petra Proitsi, ARUK Senior Post-doctoral Research Fellow also from King's College London and Dr Maryam Shoai, Senior Research Fellow in Statistical Genetics at University College London. Dr Cristina Legido-Quigley - We work with omics sciences, this is mapping thousands of molecules in the body with our technology and then with data science trying to see which are the most important and change in Alzheimer’s. The next step is replenishing these molecules if they are beneficial or monitoring them if they signal a problem or a inflammatory. Dr Petra Proitsi - I leverage genetic and multi omics (particularly metabolomics) information to enhance early dementia prediction and to find prevention and intervention targets. Dr Maryam Shoai - I work in the Faculty of Brain Sciences on genetic data to identify predictive models for both risk of disease and progression of disease! This work has previously included exploring Nanotechnology, Materials Chemistry and Statistical Genetics. I have an interest in Big Data, Genetics, and Statistical methods for identification of risk and progression variables in neurodegenerative disorders. -- The 2022 Dementia Research Charity Chatathon LIVE was held on Friday 2nd December - A non-stop 12.5 hours livestream hosted by Adam Smith interviewing 68 Dementia Researchers and Special Guests working across all areas of discovery to beat Alzheimer's disease and all forms of dementia. Raising money for research and providing insights into the latest research taking place across the UK and Worldwide. This year we are raising money for four amazing charities who all fund research - Alzheimer's Research UK, Alzheimer's Society, Race Against Dementia and The Lewy Body Society.
