USS Abraham Lincoln Inspected, Shootings Across America, Severe Weather For Hawaii & Indiana, Hayden Panettiere Passes Away

Today on America in the MorningUSS Abraham Lincoln & Iran Amidst reports of poor living and work conditions on board the USS Abraham Lincoln that have been surfacing over the last few weeks, one of the nation's top military leaders visited sailors during his trip to the Middle East.  John Stolnis has more from Washington.  Shootings Across America A college campus, a Michigan neighborhood, in Philadelphia, Chicago, Baltimore - in a bar, and even at a gun violence reduction event in Kentucky, there were shootings across America over the weekend that left more than 11 dead.  Jim Roope has details.   Hawaii Storm Damage The power is out for thousands, at least 100 homes have been damaged or destroyed, and there have been landslides and flooding from the torrential rains brought into Hawaii from Tropical Storm Lala.  Correspondent Donna Warder has details of the destruction as the rain continues to lash the 50th State.   Seven Dead In Indiana Storms A different storm has battered the Midwest.  At least seven people are dead after days of bad weather triggered record flooding in Indiana.  Correspondent Clayton Neville reports.   Tommy John Passes Away A major league baseball pitcher who became famous for the type of elbow surgery he had that resurrected his career has passed away at the age of 83.  Robert Workman looks back at Tommy John, who’s became famous for having what’s now known as Tommy John surgery, a procedure that has helped hundreds of baseball players to continue their careers.   Arrest In Memorial Vandalism Authorities are investigating an act of vandalism at a memorial on the National Mall, and the woman taken into custody was easy to find.  Marcela Sanchez reports that woman appears to have livestreamed her actions, defacing the World War II Memorial.   Cassidy Criticizes Vaccine Plan The chair of the Senate Health Committee is criticizing President Donald Trump's executive order surrounding vaccines.  Correspondent Clayton Neville reports concerns surround the President's approach to the measles vaccine.   Lawyers React To Mangione Case Luigi Mangione pleaded guilty to federal murder charges in a New York City court Friday, but state charges are still on the table, charges that Mangione’s lawyers now want dropped.  Correspondent Michael Sisak reports on Mangione’s decision to plead guilty to murdering the UnitedHealthcare CEO, and what lawyers for the prosecution and defense said after the case.   Latest On Russia & Ukraine The war between Russia and Ukraine intensified over the weekend with Russia attacking a steel plant in Ukraine, and hundreds of Ukrainian drones were sent into Kremlin territory and hit a warehouse just 15 miles from Moscow.  Correspondent Karen Chammas reports the launches by Ukraine were one of its largest aerial attacks of the war, killing at least 6 people in Russia.   Democrats Change 2028 Primary Cycle Democrats have stripped the traditional leadoff states of New Hampshire and Iowa of the first primaries of the presidential election cycle.  Change To US-South Korea Military Maneuvers In a surprise move, President Trump ordered the Pentagon to substantially reduce the annual joint military exercises with South Korea, saying America’s ally declined to help with the war against Iran, but also citing his good relationship with North Korea’s Kim Jong Un.    Finally   There was shocking news out of Hollywood where actress Hayden Panettiere has died.  Learn more about your ad choices.
