Usuli Institute Khutbah: On the Representation and Perception of Muslims, 13 November 2020

Dr. Khaled Abou El Fadl delivers the Friday khutbah and jumu'a prayer at The Usuli Institute (www.usuli.org). He presents powerful lessons on how Muslims are perceived by others and by themselves through the nuances, omissions and characterizations through history and in our modern day, and how that has affected the psychology, social status and confidence of Muslims themselves - and education in itself. For example, he contrasts the perceived heroism of Jews fighting alongside the Allies in World War II and the legacy of that elevated perception in contrast to the perception of absolute non-existence of the Muslim role in World War II despite the truth to the contrary. He highlights again the history, service, treatment and perception of Muslims in France that arise from a long tradition of racism and opportunism.
