UTEP’s Court Gone, Mountains Erased

UTEP’s iconic mountain-themed basketball court—honoring the ’66 Glory Road championship and El Paso’s landscape—is officially gone, replaced by a sleeker, sponsor-friendly design. Though the upgrade cost $100K and was meant to boost branding and commercial deals ahead of Mountain West Conference play, fans mourn the loss of its storytelling charm and regional identity. The new look prioritizes clean visuals and corporate visibility, trading artistic flair for business appeal—a trade-off that feels increasingly common in today’s sports landscape.
