Utilitarian or Biblical?

from Nadine@9

In this episode, I sit down with Dr. Wes Scroggins, Executive Director of Abolish Abortion Missouri (AAMO), to talk about the growing abolition movement and the biblical worldview behind it.Wes shares how AAMO was founded after recognizing a major gap in the pro-life movement. For decades, many mainstream pro-life organizations have focused on regulating abortion—placing limits or restrictions on the practice. But the abolition movement approaches the issue from a different perspective: if abortion is the unjust taking of innocent human life, then it must be treated in law the same way we treat any other murder.Scripture speaks clearly about justice being applied equally:* Proverbs 20:10 — “Unequal weights and unequal measures are both alike an abomination to the Lord.”* Proverbs 17:15 — “He who justifies the wicked and he who condemns the righteous are both alike an abomination to the Lord.”* Deuteronomy 16:20 — “Justice, and only justice, you shall follow.”These principles form the foundation of the abolitionist argument for equal justice and equal protection under the law for preborn children.Over the past year, many Missourians (as well as across the country) have begun to see evidence of a surprising reality: some of the strongest opposition to personhood and equal protection legislation is coming not from the pro-choice movement, but from establishment pro-life organizations. We discuss legislation like SJR72, a Personhood proposal that would recognize the preborn as persons under the law, making abortion illegal and holding those responsible for the murdering of an unborn child accountable in the same way the law treats other acts of homicide.Wes also addresses many of the common arguments used to oppose personhood legislation and explains why abolitionists believe these objections fail both biblically and logically.Another major topic we cover is the ongoing controversy surrounding Missouri HJR 73, often referred to as “Amendment 3.” Many proponents of the amendment have refused calls for a public debate with abolition advocates such as Wes—a refusal that raises serious questions about transparency and accountability in the movement. One thing is clear: continuing to approach this issue the same way we have for the past 50+ years will not bring justice for the preborn. The law itself serves a God-given purpose—to expose sin and restrain evil.As Scripture reminds us:* Romans 3:20 — “Through the law comes knowledge of sin.”* Romans 7:7 — “If it had not been for the law, I would not have known sin.”This episode is packed with powerful insights, challenging truths, and a call for Christians to reconsider how we pursue justice for the unborn.Call to ActionSupport SJR72 (Personhood) by contacting members of the Missouri Senate Emerging Issues Committee and urging them to vote “Do Pass.”You can easily find and contact the members using Act4MO’s dashboard tools!Quick ActionAnd most importantly—pray.Pray for wisdom, courage, and humility as we have these difficult conversations. Pray for the softening of hearts and for leaders who will pursue justice without compromise.Because ultimately, this fight is not won by strategy alone.“Unless the Lord builds the house, its builders labor in vain.” — Psalm 127:1Thanks for reading Nadine@9’s Substack! His girth gave rise to a famous anecdote. During World War I a lady in London asked why he was not 'out at the Front'; he replied, 'If you go round to the side, you will see that I am.' On another occasion he remarked to his friend George Bernard Shaw: "To look at you, anyone would think a famine had struck England". Shaw retorted, "To look at you, anyone would think you have caused it". P. G.
