However, the broader vision for Portage Bay Crossing remains, with plans to create a dynamic urban hub featuring academic research spaces, housing, and retail. Seattle's Interstate 5 is undergoing significant construction, particularly affecting the Ship Canal Bridge near the University. Weekend closures and lane reductions are in place through August 18. To mitigate traffic congestion, the I-5 express lanes will remain open 24/7 in the direction affected by each closure. Commuters are encouraged to use public transit and allow extra travel time during this period. The UW Libraries are hosting several events this month. A notable exhibit, "Celebrating the Jeju Haenyeo," is on display in the Allen Library lobby until August 16.
