Vale VE, Mr B and Fanboys!

We lost a good one this week. Champion mare Verry Elleegant sadly passed away in Europe during foal birth, right on the eve of the inaugural Verry Elleegant Stakes. Geez she was a bloody good horse. Eleven Group 1 wins from 1400m to 3200m, when she absolutely pissed in to win the Melbourne Cup. Superstar.It was bittersweet for Chris Waller, who enjoyed the spoils when Fangirl bolted in a few days earlier. Winx-esque was the call from most punters, and we absolutely agree. She was freakish and she’ll probably win everything this autumn. Froth.On to this week, we’ve got three Group 1 races from Caulfield. How good!? The Blue Diamond, Oakleigh Plate and the Futurity Stakes, headlined by Mr Brightside, are all set to be crackers. We can’t wait.While Blue Diamond Day probably doesn’t hold the throne for ‘Greatest Sporting Events’, it’s right up there for great Australian race days.
