The event sparked numerous theories, ranging from a staged disappearance to a crash caused by disorientation or a possible extraterrestrial encounter. While the official report concluded that the disappearance was "presumed fatal," the mystery persists, becoming a staple of UFO folklore and a reminder of the vastness and mysteries of the universe.
