Currently the Music Director of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, after his 15 year stint as chief conductor of the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, his illustrious career spans collaborations with some of the world’s finest orchestras and opera companies including the Berlin and London Symphony Orchestra, as well as the Gewandhaus, the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Metropolitan Opera, among many others. Vasily talks about his upbringing in the then-USSR, and speaks with great passion about the need for music to bring peace in all parts of the world. He has a deep understanding of the music he conducts, and strives to expand the musical horizons of audiences. Vasily Petrenko conducts the Sydney Symphony Orchestra from 27-30 November.
