Hi and welcome back to the daily study. We are starting a brand weekly to our portion for it is a new week I'm reiterating that we're starting the weekly to our portion of a yikra last week. We ran by Yakel and pick a day together And I recorded pick a day all today So you guys can take a look at it if you would like to catch up and if not you can jump right in with us cuz this is where the Synagogues are up to in the tour readings the book of a yikra and we're it's a brand new book So it's the third of the book of Moses and it's also a weekly to our portion that discusses sacrifices So we're gonna dive into Sunday's reading for a yikra After the tabernacle was erected on the 1st of nissan 2,449 God called Moses into the tabernacle and began instructing him regarding the procedures for the sacrifices There are four broad categories of sacrifices ascent offerings peace offerings sin offerings and guilt offerings God first taught Moses the procedures for ascent offerings Adam kiyakri v mikam karban vigomir God said to Moses when someone brings a sacrifice and so on The notion of sacrifice means to run counter to the Jewish conception of God God has no need to consume or to be bribed by our sacrifices Yet we see in the section of the Torah that God does not only accept sacrifices, but explicitly Sets down the procedures for them giving every indication that he actually wants them In fact the Hebrew word translated a sacrifice or offering is karban which means to get close Although we generally associate sacrifices with atonement for sin the first sacrifices mentioned in the section are voluntary Offerings which an individual brings to God not to atone for sin, but out of the desire to draw close to him Of course some of the sacrifices are indeed sin offerings This simply indicates that God calls out to all of us to draw close to him not only to the getless among us But at all times so practically speaking nowadays that we don't have the mishkhan or the temple in Jerusalem What would be ways that we can draw close to God because we don't have the Corbonauts the sacrifices the three ways are number one through studying the Torah particularly is teachings about sacrifices Number two through prayer and the language of which is modeled after the sacrifices and number three through acts of charity and kindness And those three ways Torah learning prayer and acts of kindness are ways to get close to God That was it for today's daily study of the weekly Torah portion of a yukra
