Praise God for His Marvelous Works Text: Psalm 139:14-18 Intro: King David's response to the knowledge that God had created him was Praise! "I will praise Thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made..." This should be our response also. In our text David had three things to praise God for and so do you and I. He praised God for His marvelous works: 1. God was the One Who Made Him – vs. 14-16 • We are fearfully and wonderfully made. Vs 14. That is: The one and only powerful, wonderful, intelligent and miraculous God made us; not evolution! • David thanked God that in his soul he knew this great truth. We too should be thankful and praise God we know this truth! • God knew David before He created him. Vs 15-16 Wow! Ref: Jer.1:5 • His "members" were written in the book of life. Vs 16 2. God was Mindful of Him – vs. 17-18 • We should praise God that He is mindful of us. Ref: Psalm 8: 3-4 • This means God thinks of us, loves us and cares for us. Praise God! • God's "thoughts" to us are precious and more than we can count! vs. 17 • David was praising God for his blessings. vs 18; so should we! • I am reminded: when Jesus was on the cross, I was on His mind! • In Psalm 22 David was allowed to look in the future and see Jesus on the cross. 3. God was Merciful to Him – vs. 23-24 • David prayed for God to search his heart. vs. 23 • This is actually the context of this great Psalm. Ref: vs 1 • David got his answer. vs. 24 = Yes there were some wicked "ways" in David's life! • David received great mercy from God. Ps. 32:1-5; Ps. 51:1-5,12 Conclusion: We need to pray this brave prayer: search my heart oh God...We also can repent and receive God's great mercy! Psalm 147:11
