Venerable Moses of Optina: A Life of Humble Service

Today we remember Venerable Moses of Optina, a monk who devoted his life to prayer, leadership, and the spiritual growth of his community. Born Timothy Putilov in 1782, he embraced monastic life early and became a guiding elder at Optina Hermitage. Saint Moses led the monastery through many changes, building its physical and spiritual foundations. Known for his humility and patience, he served as Superior for 37 years and helped establish the tradition of eldership at Optina, leaving a lasting legacy in monastic life.Support the show
