Venerable Polycarp, Archimandrite of the Kiev Far Caves

Today we remember Venerable Polycarp, Archimandrite of the Kiev Far Caves. He was a devoted monk who grew in virtue and repentance, guided by his relative Saint Simon, Bishop of Vladimir and Suzdal. Polycarp carefully recorded the lives of the ascetics of the Kiev Caves to inspire others. Polycarp became the Superior of the Lavra after the repose of Igumen Akindynus. He was a wise spiritual leader who helped many, including Great Prince Rostislav, who wished to become a monk but was called to serve as a prince. Polycarp reposed in 1182, and after a time of prayer, the monks found a worthy successor in Igumen Basil.Support the show
