Venture capital investment in Australia hit a new low in 2011 leaving start-up entrepreneurs looking for loans or digging into their own pockets and those of angel investors. Not every business is suitable for venture capital. While inventors and entrepreneurs lament the lack funds to get their ideas rolling, venture investors argue they need to change their attitudes. Australia will look to its high-growth companies as the drivers of future economic prosperity, but venture capital industry operatives suggest policymakers also must consider ways to deliver tangible means of support.
