One of the key components to a solid DR Plan is connectivity – of users, hardware, access to software – phones etc. I attended a IT director roundtable discussion last week surrounding DR preparedness and lessons learned from Katrina, Gustav etc – we were provided a list of 20+ questions and topics to cover everything from replication to evacuation procedures. Interestingly, we blew through 75% of the topics but the conversation got hung up on Voip access, user access and connectivity. M to W: So when we talk about connectivity – what are we referring to – give a quick definition of VPN, VDs, Terminal services etc….. M to W: You’ve survived several disaster grade hurricanes and more importantly – help numerous businesses stay in business – tell our listeners about some of the connectivity challenges you’ve seen our customers face? M to W: Will, how is it that connectivity in a DR scenario is “seemingly” so commonly overlooked?
