Very Good Music Bonus Episode 2: A Tribute to the Power Pros

from Very Good Music: A VGM Podcast · host bedroth & Shootkapow

On June 20th, 2020, an era came to an end. After 200 episodes, the Power Pros podcast closed its doors…at least for the time being. However, on their next-to-last episode, the Pros did something I’d been bugging host “The Hoff” Chris Hoffman to do for months: an episode dedicated to 10 of each of their favorite video game soundtracks. I was so impressed with the Pros’ picks and the heartfelt way they discussed each game that I just had to build our second bonus episode around those very same games. And you, gamers, are in for a treat. Along with Pete and Hoff, I recommend that everyone check out these full soundtracks. It's easier than ever these days to listen to game soundtracks, so get out there and enjoy some Very Good Music! Track list: Intro - Shark Flower - from the 2013 album Thirteen Orphans - Andy Myers, AKA Stenobot (the Power Pros theme song) 13:12 - Actraiser - Ending - Yuzo Koshiro - d.Quintet/p.Enix/SNES, 1990 17:18 - Contra - Base - Kazuki Muraoka/arr Hidenori Maezawa, Kiyohiro Sada - Konami/Arcade, 1987/NES, 1988 21:20 - Chrono Trigger - Ayla's Theme - Yasuonori Mitsuda - Square/SNES, 1995 24:51 - F-Zero X - The Long Distance of Murder (Red Canyon) - Taro Bando, Hajime Wakai - Nintendo/N64, 1998 28:15 - Double Dragon - Opening Level - Kazunaka Yamane - Technos Japan/Taito/Arcade, 1987/NES, 1988 32:11 - Metroid Prime - Tallon Overworld (remix of NES Brinstar) - Hirokazu Tanaka/arr Kinji Yamamoto, Kouichi Kyuma - Retro Studios/Nintendo/GameCube, 2002 38:21 - Ducktales - Himalayas - Hiroshige Tonomura - Capcom/NES, 1989/90 41:32 - The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past - Black Mist - Koji Kondo - Nintendo/SNES, 1991/92 45:36 - Final Fantasy VI - Epitaph - Nobuo Uematsu - Square/SNES/1994 50:30 - The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker - Grandma's theme - Kenta Nagata, Hajime Wakai, Toru Minegishi, Koji Kondo - Nintendo/GameCube, 2002/03 54:35 - Gradius III - Continue Theme - Miki Higashino - Konami/Arcade, 1989/SNES, 1990/91 57:39 - The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time - Gerudo Valley - Koji Kondo - Nintendo/N64, 1998 1:01:25 - Legend of the Mystical Ninja/Ganbare Goemon: Yukihime Kyushutsu Emaki - Town of Yamato - Kazuhiko Uehara, Harumi Ueko - Konami/SNES, 1991/92 1:04:38 - Punch Out!! - Minor Circuit - Yukio Kaneoka, Akito Nakatsuka, Kenji Yamamoto/arr Mike Peacock, Darren Radtke, Chad York - Next Level Games/Nintendo/Wii, 2009 1:07:36 - Mega Man II - Dr. Wily Stage 2 - Takashi Tateishi - Capcom/NES, 1988 1:10:28 - Street Fighter II - Guile's Theme - Yoko Shimomura - Capcom/Multi-Platform, 1991 1:13:57 - Ninja Gaiden – Prison of the Dead (Act 5 Part 1) - Keiji Yamagishi, Ryuichi Nitta - Tecmo/Arcade, 1988/NES, 1988/89 1:17:16 - Super Mario Bros. 2 - Battle Against Wart - Koji Kondo - Nintendo/NES, 1988 1:20:26 - Super Castlevania IV - Dracula Battle - Masanori Adachi, Taro Kudo - Konami/SNES, 1991 1:32:50 - Super Mario World - Ending - Koji Kondo - Nintendo/SNES, 1990/91 Look for our next episode to drop on Tuesday, September 8th, and new episodes to come every other Tuesday following!
