Welcome to the Tweep Trends Podcast. Hey, Evette, what's trending today? Hey, I'm Evette. Hey, girl.

And you are tuned in to Tweep Trends. It's the quickest way to find out what's trending today. Hey, happy Veterans Day. Let's get started.

Hey there and happy Veterans Day. The fact that this is the month of November, I also want to say, happy Military Families Month. Yes, it's Military Families Month as well as Veterans Day and also considered Veteran and Military Families Month. So all things military, that's what we're focusing on.

And let me go into this first before I say the rest of what I have to say. A lot of people get it wrong and want to take today to be the day that they shout out all their best buds that are currently active duty military members. When in actuality, Veterans Day is the day that we're supposed to be showing how much we appreciate those people who have either gone on, who died in the line of duty, or they have already gotten out of the military that are no longer active duty. So we want to take a moment to recognize them in particular because of everything that they've done.

Now, when you think about those people who are presently active duty, you may want to have a conversation with them to find out what is it really like to be in the military? What is it like to have to deploy and leave your family behind? What is it like to have to go overseas and possibly participate in some type of combat and, you know, or safety type mission or secret mission that you can't even tell people about or to know secret things that once again, you can't tell anybody about what is that life like. So then you can take that conversation and then when you see a vet, you can say, you know what?

Whatever it is you did, whether you were in a front office or on the front lines, thank you because either way, you contributed to the idea that today we are free, we are safe, and whatever your contribution was, I can appreciate that. So we want to take those moments to recognize our veterans. Last night on the phone, I was talking to a friend and she works at a place called Charleston vets and at this place, they service veterans who are homeless. And when I tell you the stuff that she was telling me was absolutely mind-blowing, but not surprising because you hear it in the news all the time where they say that the typical American is like one disaster away from being homeless.

And basically that's what's happened to a lot of these people that they serve where something happened, finances got really, really tight to the point where they were no longer able to maintain their household. And it's sad. It's sad to think that there are people out there who did so much for their country. They're educated.

They have a good head on their shoulders, but something went wrong along the way that's got them in a bad position. But luckily this organization is there to help them. And they don't hold their hands. They make them responsible, so to speak.

They have them set appointments for dental and medical because that's one of the things that when people are homeless, that kind of stuff goes on the back burner. You don't go to a doctor because how do you pay the doctor? So they have programs in place and because they're vets, they have the ability to get service, the ability to have medical care and dental care. It's just that when you have no place to go, you've got other things on your mind than going for your annual physical.

And so right now I'm at a place where the next time I go home, I'm going to see if I can go to work with my friend and talk with some of these veterans to see where did it all go wrong? Like, what gems can you give me that I can spread to let other people know that, you know, be wise, be smart, don't fall for schemes and scams or whatever it is that got them to where they are? I would love it if they would share that information with me because quite often when we're driving down the street and we see somebody on the side of the road as homeless, I would love to know what their story is as to how they ended up where they are because at one point in time they were somebody's cute little baby and they were in elementary school and they graduated or they did whatever, they got a GD, they did something and then somewhere along the lines something happened and I'm always intrigued to know that. And so the same thing for our vets, if you have a moment to chat with one, definitely find out what their story is.

I know you'll be amazed. If you are unsure of where you can go in your community to figure out how you can give back to a veteran, why not go online? It's open to everyone, right? So check out Charity Navigator.

That's charitynavigator.org and do a search. You can search for veterans or military service members or search for both and you'll get some highly rated nonprofits that are dedicated to serving whatever that search item was that you were looking for. So I did a search and I came up with three different categories. There's wounded troop services, military social services and military family support.

And I'm telling you, there are so many organizations that are listed under here that it's absolutely amazing. I can't even begin to tell you all of them. So once again, check out charitynavigator.org. That's C-H-A-R-I-T-Y-N-A-V-I-G-A-T-O-R dot org.

Thank you so much for joining me for today's episode. It's Veterans Day. So find a way to celebrate whether it's in your community, in your family or go online, check out charitynavigator.org or if you know of a veteran in your family, then go have a sit down with them and chat about the good old days or the olden times or if they're not that old just when they were in the service. And on top of that, look for an organization near you that supports vets and if nothing else, donate a few dollars to them, make a habit, do it monthly and you just don't know how much you'd really be helping, not even necessarily just a single veteran, but them and their families as well.

Alright guys, check me out on Twitter at HEVET. That's at HEY-V-E-T-E or just look for the hashtag tweet trends. And I'll see you guys next week. Have a good one.
