Veteran’s Deadly Stand in Idaho Sheriff’s Office | Spokane News

A 77-year-old Vietnam veteran with a history of mental illness and PTSD stormed a sheriff’s office in North Idaho, opening fire on two women who were about to use the restroom—wounding them in the legs before barricading himself inside. Despite earlier threats and concerning behavior, including brandishing a weapon at a contractor and making violent calls to the sheriff’s office that went unanswered, authorities had not acted on prior reports. After nearly two hours of standoff, officers fatally shot Drake. The FBI and multiple agencies responded to the scene as investigators seek to understand his motive, while his family warns he was long-term dangerous and should never have had access to firearms.
