VFTB 131: The Early Church and the Nephilim

from A View from the Bunker · host Derek & Sharon Gilbert

THE BELIEF that angels mated with human women to produce monstrous offspring called the Nephilim is not just an ancient myth, a curious tale that found its way into the book of Genesis.  The idea was part of the early church through the Apostolic Age and on through about the fourth century A.D.Why?  Should modern-day Christians assume that we know better than, say, the apostle Peter or Jude, the (half-)brother of Jesus because we do science?  Or are there good reasons to accept the Genesis 6 account at face value and look for underlying spiritual causes?  Dr. Judd Burton, author of Interview With the Giant: Ethnohistorical Notes on the Nephilim and Director of the Institute of Biblical Anthropology, joins us to discuss a paper he recently presented to the Texas Medieval Association on the beliefs of the early church fathers regarding the "giants in the Earth in those days."Please join the discussion at the PID Radio Cafe, visit the VFTB Facebook page and check out the great Christian podcasters at the Revelations Radio Network.
