Farhad Bitani è uno scrittore afgano, ultimo figlio di un generale di Corpo d’Armata afghano. Ha servito come ufficiale nell’Esercito del suo Paese durante la missione ISAF e nel 2012 si è congedato dall’Esercito per dedicarsi alla promozione della pace e del dialogo interreligioso e interculturale. È uno dei fondatori del GAF Global Afghan Forum. La sua autobiografia “L’ultimo lenzuolo bianco” è edita da Neri Pozza (2020).Nel 2011, durante un periodo di licenza in Afghanistan, subisce un attentato da parte di un commando di Talebani. Sopravvissuto miracolosamente all’attacco, incomincia una riflessione sulla propria vita che lo conduce a un radicale cambiamento: depone le armi, chiede e ottiene asilo in Italia. Per Storiainpodcast Farhad Bitani racconta il presente dell’Afghanistan attraverso i drammatici ricordi del passato.I Talebani sono un’organizzazione politica e militare, a ideologia fondamentalista islamica, presente in Afghanistan e nel confinante Pakistan. Sviluppatisi come movimento politico e militare per la difesa dell’Afghanistan nella guerriglia successiva al crollo del protettorato sovietico, i talebani sono noti per essersi fatti portatori dell’ideale politico-religioso che vorrebbe recuperare tutto il portato culturale, sociale, giuridico ed economico dell’Islam per costituire un Emirato. Dopo una sanguinosa guerra civile che li ha visti prevalere su tagiki e uzbeki,i talebani hanno governato su gran parte dell’Afghanistan (escluse le regioni più a occidente e a settentrione) dal 1996 al 2001.
