Vicomte De Bragelonne Chapter XXIII - In which the Author, very unwillingly, is forced to write a Little History

In which the author turns his pen reluctantly to recount the tense standoff between two rival generals, Monk and Lambert, whose armies face each other on the borders of Scotland and England amidst the turbulent aftershocks of revolution. Amidst this military chessboard, a group of southern fishermen, caught by circumstance and suspicion, become unwitting pawns as Monk astutely interrogates their purpose and allegiance on the eve of an uncertain dawn.
