Victor Garcia, Conservation Bridge, Passes | Spokane News

Victor Garcia, a retired science teacher and seasoned fisherman with deep ties to Washington’s natural resources, has died—leaving behind a legacy of bridging conservation and hunting communities on the state’s Fish and Wildlife Commission. Appointed in 2025 by Governor Bob Ferguson, Garcia brought rare expertise from his marine zoology degree and years working as a biologist and commercial fisherman. Known for his passion for outdoor pursuits like birdwatching and hunting, he was praised for his balanced perspective during a time of growing tension between environmentalists and sportsmen. With his term ending in December 2030, Ferguson now faces the challenge of finding a successor to fill Garcia’s vital seat in western Washington.
