Welcome to Thursday where we're going to talk about podcasting. Well kind of like podcasting we do that on Thursdays once in a while But I got an email got a special request. This is a daily grateful I'm Michael crows and we're going to talk about five things that you need to get started with video podcasting And look at me starting to show without even wearing my headphones. I just put my headphones on All right, I've shut off my iPhone So I won't get any more disturbing calls as I try and record all of these in advance, which I don't generally like to do But anyway, I got a nice lady sent me a nice email and asked me she said she wants to start a video Podcast what are the things that she needs?
So I'm going to go over five things that you need to start a video podcast and we're gonna move right along and get this done Number one number one. I need a sounder. That's number one. Anyway.
I love that is okay. What was that? Oh, okay But first thing you need is recording equipment. Yeah, you need that camera a decent camera with good video quality I've got one.
I'm looking at it. It's right over there. It's it's Made by zoom and zoom is really good at audio and they created this nifty camera that has XLR Things on it for really good audio that I can plug right into my board here And it's really nice and it but I know some very successful ones that do all of this with a webcam But you have to have a good webcam, you know, if you've got a $200 laptop and there's a webcam in it Don't depend on that you need to take it up a notch and probably spend a hundred bucks on a good decent webcam The next thing you need a microphone because video is good videos important But audio is more important people have to hear you and I've talked about audio before So you want a good quality microphone and then of course you need headphones so you can monitor Your audio while you're recording and all of that good type of stuff number two number two lighting My son Kyle helped me with this because you used to do that New York City for television and theater and Circuses and all kinds of stuff like that good lighting. I've got good lighting.
I've got professional lighting in here A lot of people have a ring camera or ring camera rings one of those ring lights I got one I rarely use it But if I was doing actual I would be using it But I've got two lights that get me from each side and I've got the ring light in front of me and when it I'm bathed in light It's it's pretty good system and I don't have that much money into it So you can get good money or good lighting with you know not spending a ton of money recording software Since you're doing video and audio you need tools like OBS studio or clip champ which I've talked about To record on that and you know There's there's a bunch of them out there and I would use your audio that you use You know with your really good microphone and you can sync it to the video later Which sounds really hard, but I've I've done it and the first time I did it I was very successful and it's not that difficult at all. It is really easy So, you know, there's a lot of them out there and as far as the audio is concerned Adobe Audition or Audacity Would be the recording software. I would use on that, but there's there's more next you're going to need number four huh, you're going to need editing software and The for the video Adobe Premiere Pro is like a high-end version the clip champ that I was just talking about which is easy to use I mean, I had a I literally had a 12 year old teach me how to use clip champ and you and you get that for free It's it's part of Microsoft if you've got a Windows computer. You got that for free.
Okay, and it works really well And eventually resolve I know a guy I know a guy who has actually made Documentaries and movies using to differentiate resolve. It's high-end high learning curve I don't know how to use it. I don't want to know how to use it But I know people who use it and they make magical videos. So if you're nerdy there you go now.
Here's the important one Hosting platform and distribution. All right now if you're gonna do a video podcast, you're gonna have to use YouTube That's one thing, but I will tell you there are others Streamyard now has a video audio video setup. They're a good company Let's see the Lipsen has a audio video Buzzsprout has audio video Spotify is what I use Spotify for podcasters. It also has a really good video platform on it So you can distribute it that way So if I were to give you my best advice I would go with Spotify for podcasters And I would use that for both the audio and the video and they'll put it all together and then from there you put it on YouTube and soon You'll be rich.
I don't know about that, but you will have a video podcast All right Tomorrow is Friday and on Friday. I'm gonna teach you how to write what you publish it. I'll turn you into a publisher in about six minutes I'm kind of liking that idea.
