Vietnam Veterans Day Special- Sportspeople and the Vietnam War

from Sport Shack · host Paul Tonner

Paul and Glenn are back for another fun and entertaining episode. This week we pay our respects to those that served in the Vietnam War and commemorate Vietnam Veterans Day. We discuss some sportspeople who served in the Vietnam War or had some association with it. Some of who we discuss include. - a great Aussie song about the Vietnam War - A former Australian cricketer who is the only living cricketer to have seen active service and has gone on to do great things in raising the awareness and knowledge of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. - A former Aussie cricket larrikan with an impressive test record and who took up his heavy smoking habit when drafted for National Service for the Vietnam War. - Muhammed Ali and his strong stance against the Vietnam War. - Bob Fulton doing National Service and being a physical fitness instructor in the 1960’s on boats sailing between Australia and Vietnam. - Woody Campbell, Rocky Bleier, Roger Staubach, and Bob Kalsu - Leon Spinks, Jesse Ventura and Bill Bradley. - Tom Seaver - The 1968 World Series Baseball Game 5 when the crowd expressed their patriotism and displeasure with the National anthem and with Vietnam Veterans complaining. - The Socceroo’s playing a tournament in Vietnam in 1967 during the height of the Vietnam War and the conditions they had to endure. We also pay our respects to the passing of the great journalist, interviewer and cricket tragic Sir Michael Parkinson. We give our claps and slaps of the week. Miss Olivia drops by to do the Quiz and Who Am I? we have our Where are they now? Segment and Glenn wraps up the show with one of his cracking jokes.
