Village Seventh-day Adventist Church - A False Balance and a Just Weight | Daniel Gordan
from Adventist Podcast Network
Most of us would never consider ourselves dishonest, but our everyday transactions reveal more about our faith than we might expect. Proverbs 11:1 declares that a false balance is an abomination to God, while a just weight is His delight. In ancient times, dishonest merchants would manipulate their scales to cheat buyers, and Solomon places this image at the heart of his wisdom framework as a choice between the path of God and the path of destruction. The Law of Moses reinforced this, tying honest measurement directly to Israel's covenant identity with God. Modern equivalents of a false balance include hidden fees, inflated timesheets, concealed defects, and using superior knowledge to take advantage of others. God does not simply condemn dishonest scales. He takes personal pleasure in honest ones. Christian integrity means the scale stays accurate even when no one else is watching. Honesty in ordinary life is not a minor footnote to faith. It is one of its clearest expressions.
