Life rarely moves in a straight line, and Mark chapter 5 gives us two powerful stories that prove it. Jairus, a synagogue ruler, came to Jesus in desperation when his twelve-year-old daughter was dying. On the way, a woman who had suffered from bleeding for twelve years reached out and touched Jesus in one quiet, desperate act of faith, and she was instantly healed. While Jesus stopped to honor her faith, word came that Jairus's daughter had already died. Jesus pressed on anyway, walked into that house, and raised the girl back to life. The ups and downs these two people experienced were not signs that God had abandoned them. They were part of a story that ended in resurrection.
